As someone who has actually been in DKs race Z33, I can attest to his statements regarding tire size and literally bolting steel/lead plates where the passenger seat used to be to make the car less competitive.
This is done in horse racing also. They "handicap" the fastest horse with lead in the saddle to give slower horses a chance.
If the Z33 is such a track slug, why the restrictions and 100+ lbs of weight?
(He still won his class btw).

Let's not confuse what is now an affordable used car for what the real problem is: attitudes towards the 350Z. Some people don't want to take the time to learn about cars in general; they just want to be handed the whole package, spoon-fed. Some people simply don't realize the lengths Nissan went to in making a car with a variety of traits: great styling, performance, affordability, utility and durability. Those were when the Z was first introduced, but they still shine through after more than 15 years, which is an eternity in car development.
And let's be REAL here- after years of racing the Z33 against a variety of cars that cost more than the Z, it's clear than it fights quite well above its weight. Porsche, BMW, Mazda, Ford, Chevy, etc. - the VQ (whether DE or HR) does not suck if you know how to utilize it. This season, SCCA has even mandated 37 mm air restrictors for both the DE and HR (along with more weight and smaller tires) in an attempt to equalize competition in the Touring 3 racing class. Sorry to hear you hate your VQ35HR, maybe you should just sell your Z and buy a V8 powered car if you don't want to learn more about why the VQ works so well in the Z.

Sidenote: just realized that "Bondo", the trade name, is the genericized word used by everyone for body filler. (Like "Coke" for cola, "Bandaid" for adhesive bandages, etc.) No, that has nothing to do with anything, why?

Must be the season or just at the point where “all Zs must fail” or something.
The forum has become the sounding board for all manner of Z fails.... “won’t start”.... “runs like crap”, blah blah blah. I get that part of the forum’s purpose is to get help from others. But when the same answers to the same questions appear almost daily.... zzzzzz.
“Well, did you pull the codes?”
”No, I’ll go down to Autozone to have them do it.”
”Yeah, well, while yer there, buy an inexpensive code reader! Every toolbox MUST have this.”
“I can buy one of those?”
=======
OK, I exaggerate (but not by much). I am just curious to know....
Where are all the builds?
Who beat who at last weekend’s conefest?
Where did you DRIVE your Z this weekend? (Versus “What did you repair on your Z this weekend?”)
You know....the enthusiasts’ posts!!
Even a scant four years ago when I joined, I found a lot more “inventive” postings. I’ve tried to post my own driving stories, genuinely helpful advice and “did you knows” with trivia from Nissan’s past and legacy.
And yet, day after day.... “I installed test pipes and now my car barely runs.”
Ehhhhhh, bored.

The bleeding heart FB groupies are oozing over into the forums I see...
I used to get really pissed about them not searching for themselves and disrespecting those who gave constructive criticism to them, now I don't even sweat it.
Regardless if you give them sound advice, they will do what they want. Time is the best teacher. We will all learn eventually, whether it be in an instant or a lifetime.
