Tires/rims stolen off my Z.. what now?
 

This morning I woke up and walked my dog, only to pass by my parking spot and find that my wheels had been stolen at some point overnight and the car was left sitting on four cinderblocks. The tires were half-worn, not a huge loss. But the rims were the stock '05 track editions. And now I'm not really sure what to do.

I filed a police report and contacted my insurance and a local tire shop. The insurance will cover the replacement tires/wheels for the price of my deductible ($1k).

So I contacted a local tire shop and asked them to order me some sumitomo all seasons, and they were going to contact the nissan dealer to order the rims. The nissan dealer priced the rims at $1638.31 per wheel + an additional $60-ish per wheel for lugnuts and.. faceplate? Not hubcap, but it was something like that. The rims are also a week and a half out.

Is it worth it to wait and hope the insurance is willing to cover those costs? Or should I have the tire shop get me some non-oem rims, and if so: which ones should I go with? Enkei?

If it's not going to make my insurance jump I'd use them and pay the difference cause I would not just get some stock wheels. I'd get something like Enkei and good tires

I also would not be getting OEM Track wheels for 1650 a piece. Call the insurance company and see if you can use that money to pick out some aftermarket wheels that will cost marginally less than OEM (Saves them money). For $6300 you can get some incredible wheels, top of the line, and better than OEM track wheels. If you go that route, check out the vendor classifieds for some options. For that money, I'd be getting a forged wheel.

I'd hold out for the value of those OEM wheels, and ask your insurance company for a cheap rental car until they pay. Don't forget the cost of the TPMS, too.

Also so this doesnt happen again invest in a viper 2 way alarm with a tilt sensor. Tilt sensor was about $30 extra, but works. thats some real BS man sorry to hear!

Anti tilt can easily be added to the OEM alarm

OP: I'd recommend against the anti-tilt alarm only because you're in Lynnwood and you probably ride the ferry from time to time. If you have, you've heard all the car alarms (usually from Mercedes) that go off because the owners locked their doors at the dock, walked into the cabins upstairs, and when the boat gets underway, the alarm thinks someone's messing with your car because of the rocking, etc.

I'd ask your insurance to cover some nice aftermarket wheels as well (I'm fond of O-Z Racing.) Oh yeah, if your police report shows that you were a victim of a crime and the wheels were stolen, then your insurance company can only charge $300 in the State of Washington (I'm fairly certain about this, but check with the Insurance Commissioner in Olympia just to be sure.)

Dude get that quote on the tires and wheels and negotiate a pay out with your insurance. They'll totally do that. They'll probably even send you the check!

The insurance company is obligated to get you "like-for-like" replacement parts I'm pretty sure. In your case, the OEM wheels are what you had on the car so that's what they're obligation is.

BUT, like PP08HR said, if you talk to the adjuster handling your claim, I'm willing to bet they'd go for a settlement at about 25-30% off what they'd have to pay for OEM and you can get yourself a nice set of Enkeis or Volks or something quality with that $4k or LESS!

I won't even mention the 2-3 different sets of wheels (including Track V1s wink wink) I'd be willing to let go.... to help out of course. Hahahahahahahaha.... :icon17::icon17::icon17:

There are many websites with track rims for 300-350 each.

Wait time out, if thats an 05, doesnt it book somewhere around 10k? If so wouldnt a 7k price (wheels+tires) be high enough for them to total the car out?

Very true. I was told my deductible would drop from 500 to 300 if i were or my vehicle was the victim of crime ie hit and run or vandalized. I have safeco btw.

I had my car broken into once, smashed window and my dash was torn apart. They stole my aftermarket radio and iPod. I was lucky they didn't get more but it was still over 1k of damage. I wouldn't count on catching the @$$hole(s) who did this but insurance should help you out. Obviously your insurance is probably different than mine but they gave me cash for the 'value' of everything damaged or stolen. In my case it wasn't enough but if they are quoting you at $1638.31 per wheel + lugs and hubcaps, I would definitely say it is time to go with something aftermarket. That money should cover new wheels easily. Enkei, Volk, and Work are all pretty nice.

Still surprised they didn't take the calipers with it...clearly don't know the vehicle well.

Sorry for the crap luck. Stock 18s are cheap on craigslist so I would get a set and put them on for the time being. I had to tow a brand new Murano with 1000 miles on it because someone stole all the wheels. At least they left yours on some blocks. This one wasnt so lucky. The dealership was nice though and brought a bunch of spares over so I didn't have to drag that **** on the rotors.
