Audio Upgrades
Hey guys, new poster and new Z owner here. I just purchased a 03' Touring Edition which i love to no end, but i need to upgrade the sound system desperately. I've already got a 1200W Amp and i've got about $400-$500 for the rest. I've read all over to avoid the rear speakers but i don't know anything about it. I definetly need a good Head Unit, and i think i want one 10' subwoofer. Other than that i don't know much about the tweeters or the rear speakers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Keep in mind, i need to use some of the money for installation!

I don't know who keeps saying to avoid rear speakers in this car, but they are stupid. I would slap someone who said that. I have ran the car with out rear speakers and with out the fill it sounds like a#$holes farting underwater.

I did a double din head unit and replaced the front and rear speakers with some polk units the fronts were direct replacments the rears came with a crossover and two tweeters I got them from crutchfield for less than $200 for all 6 speakers (probably closer to $150) It was night and day difference from the stock paper speakers.

Front door speakers I used

I used these for the rears and mounted the tweeters right beside them it was a bit of a pita to do the rears but I took my time and was able to get them done without completely diassembling the whole rear

I got my head unit from crutchfield with all the installation gear... I got rockford fosgate prime speakers from Amazon probably $250 max... I made my box for about $15 and I already had subs sitting in my basement... Check out the audio section, your going to want to run new speaker wire and bypass your factory amplifier.
Doing it yourself is the way to go, building a box is also the way to go, not difficult for a diy project... You will need to take most of the interior apart so do everything at the same time...
I ran rear speakers without fronts for a bit, I wouldn't recommend just running fronts, it's easy to run the wires for the rears and the spot behind the seat is fine for some 6 1/2 inchers.
I would also recommend you dont try and stick your box in the factory subs cubby hole, it really should go in the hatch...
Here is a picture of what a $15 sub box looks like in the back of my car...
Hope this helps best of luck.

Your going to want to do it all at the same time, the factory speakers are 2 ohm and designed to be used in a awesomely disappointing system. So your going to want to rip out everything with bose written on it. And if you dont run new speaker wire your going to want to splice the speaker wires in the hatch together to bypass that factory amp.
