A Hint of Things To Come Z35-wise?

Nissan should be coming out with the 370z replacement sometime in 2017 or 2018. There will be a replacement announced in the next 2 years production is rumored to start in 2018.
There is much tbd about what power train the Z will use. Some are saying the V6 is the only way they're going to make it. Some are saying a 4 cylinder turbo, others are saying hybrid set-up. Personally I would never buy a Z with anything less than a 6cyl. I don't care how much power it may make with a separate battery powered engine.
I think there is a high possibility of a hybrid Z to come, this would eliminate most of the complaints about the Z's producing too little power (comparatively) to the competition and increase the speed numbers across the board. On that note, there are also lots of rumors saying that customers might actually get an option for which engine the Z will come with. Identical to Mustangs with Eco Boost, V6, and the V8.
The next model will be make or break for the Z lineup. I think it will take off or fall flat on its face, not much in-between.
Some pictures of what the next Z may look like:
Motortend also thinks the next Z will be a hybrid: http://www.motortrend.com/news/we-he...ith-targa-top/

Hate to break it to you, but the new Q50 (replacing the G37) DOES use a turbo four (2.0-liter) as one of the engine options. It's on sale now.
Nissan plans to release a new version of the NISMO Sentra this fall. According to your logic, the possibility the Z35 gets a 4 cylinder option or goes EV is increasing...

Again Several Higher Ups say the Z is tradition and will always be a 6cyl. There is ZERO reason for this to change.
Everyone in this thread who are saying it will have a 4cyl say it will because it should or that's how the market is shifting.
This is wrong. People who buy this car do not car about fuel efficiency, and it will never be a big money maker for Nissan. It something people drool over. something to make people go oooh thats fast! Maybe this Nismo Juke has the same tech! If nissan wanted to make a profitable sports car they would be better off competing with the miata/BRZ with something that would be a nismo Sentra or a 240sx revival. They may do that at sometime, but it will be independent of the Z. The Z isn't changing bros. They will stop making it before it gets a change like that.

I am at a loss as to why diesel is so much more popular or prevalent than gas on some continents. Maybe I haven't researched hard enough, but here in the Midwest, diesel is extremely expensive in comparison to the alternatives. WE also use more E85 fuel here since I think the corn industry is subsidized by the GOVT.

The whole point of putting a 4cyl in the Z would be to make it lose weight and be smaller. If It CAN fit a 6cyl in it its not accomplishing that, there would be no point. You buy a Q-whogivesacrap for its luxury not its sportscarness.

Secondly, people that buy these cars aren't all huge enthusiast like us. You have to remember some people just head to a dealership, see the car they like in their budget and buy it. Fuel efficiency is definitely a factor for some people.
I completely agree that a 4 cyl Z would be a terrible idea but Nissan is moving away from heritage and tradition and looking for $$$$$$. If they think they can sell more Z's with a turbo 4-banger than a 6 cyl then they are going to make a turbo 4 cyl. Its plain and simple. Hopefully if they do, we will have multiple engine options and a 6 cyl will be one of those.

They'll figure out a way to match the concept of making money with keeping up on technological advances. Nowadays, a turbo 4 or 6 cylinder engine makes more sense than other options in some cars.

I'm curious to see where they go with the design of it, based on their new trend of making everything swooped and V shaped. (Hoping they revert back to smoother, more refined body lines like the 350). As for power, I would love to see the VR38DETT planted in a Z. It would obviously have to be some sort of mass-produced variant, as a hand-built motor would easily double the MSRP. I would rather they mate it up to a 6 speed though. Paddle shifters are so lame.

thought e85 burned slower?
As long as the styling is good it can be made fast
Id rather it be gasoline, not hybrid and not variable compression. Already enough technology to deal with.

But ya, AX, that's a concept rendering I've not seen. A sword I would buy (or consider buying). A 350bhp (400bhp Nismo) drivetrain (of whatever flavor) would be sufficient.

I feel like the next Z is RIP just like the Z32 from 96-2002
Nobody buys new Z cars but middle aged women. And they are all auto! Z33 might be the best Z for a while

And slow. Being the biggest problem for it compared to the competition
