Default Well folks - it's been great. Thanks for everything!

So I've been driving and loving Z's for the past 5 years and this forum has been fantastic. I've had the privilege of meeting some of the people here and some of my coolest friends are part of the Z community. I purchased a 2007 Touring in 2012 and then purchased a 2007 Nismo is 2013 and have been driving that ever since. The Nismo excelled in autocross, putting down times much better than most powerful cars. It looks like I'm getting a buyer lined up for the Nismo.

I ended up falling in love with GTR's, and I'm currently in the process of purchasing one. It is a shiny silver, just like my Z's, and its a mint 2013 with almost no miles. I'll still check in to the forums from time to time.

Anyway, thanks for having me here! Keep on Z'ing

Ah, the dream of so many Z owners to move on up to the GT-R. Having driven several iterations of the R35, I know you'll enjoy it. But it's a different league in both purchase price, as well as maintenance costs. Please stop back and enlighten the rest of us on what it takes to date Godzilla.

Maintenance costs on the GT-R are INSANE. But enjoy the ride!

According to Insure.com, the Nissan GT-R is on the list of the 10 most expensive cars to insure with an annual cost of $3,500 or more. Owners also admit to a rather uncomfortable car that has a lot road noise.

But, I think if you can afford it, the GT-R would be very fun to own. It’s a driver’s car for sure.

When my Z34N was almost at lease end, the selling dealer was trying to "work me" into a GTR. (Trust me, it's not pretty when a sales guy tries to sell something to another professional/veteran sales god - laff...). It made a lot more sense for me to buy out the Niz (due to my pre-negotiated buy-out) and give it to my daughter for the price of the car she was looking at at the time.

But I drove a Black Edition and it's a screamin' hoot but nahhhhhhh, wasn't ready to write a check that's equal to a home down payment - for a CAR! Even one as awesome as a GTR. I did check with my insurance though and yeah, even for a guy who's record is as clean as it can be, it was still going to cost 3x the amount - just for the R35 - I was paying for three cars at the time, one of which was my Nismo. Uhh, no....

Well folks, here it is. A 2013 GTR which had about 5800 miles when I bought it a few days ago. It is not a daily driver, more like a twice in a month kind of car, just like my Nismo was. I spent about 2 hours combing through it before purchasing it and couldn't find a single indication of rock chip, bug splatter, or anything. It is absolutely mint. Car is incredibly clunky and sounds super shitty when just going parking lot speeds. But once you get on a normal street and give it a little gas it is super smooth and responsive. It feels like a giant 370Z to be honest. I love it

Thanks! I was thinking about reconditioning my Z a bit. It is in good shape, but I was going to spend $1800 to repair the front bumper, a grand to install new rotors and brakes, and replace some interior panels. But I've been driving it for 4 years and wanted to try something new. Well, GTR seemed like the logical choice. I'm not usually impulsive, but the decision from wanting a GTR to buying one was about 2 weeks. Everything fell into place nicely with selling the Nismo in addition to a great deal on the GTR. And it is a very minor hit to my insurance (extra $57 a month) compared to my Nismo. Not really a huge financial hit when considering the cash out on the Z.

Which is it?

Well, they initially drop the value greatly, then bottom out and pretty much stay there regardless of condition and mileage. Brand new they are about 100k-110k. After about 3 years they have depreciated somewhere between 60k-70k depending on years and mileage, and just kind of stay in that range.

I bought this one for 67k! Which is a bit below book value.

Looks like a nice R35 at a good price. Is it a premium model?

Also, how did you evaluate it before the sale? The Brembo brake rotors have wear limits of 3 mils before replacement and I believe they are 3-4X the cost of Z33 Brembos. Will you be taking it in for dealer service, or doing what you can on your own?

Nice man! That's not too bad at all.

Hell thats just shy of what I paid for my truck

Yea I've seen some GTR's for what you said 60-70k.. But not too long ago they were being sold used above sticker. I'm talking like $90 - $150k stock and with 10-20k miles on em.

Wasn't sure where the market sat now.

Its a premium. I really just walked around the car and inspected everything visually that I could. Then they tossed me the keys and I drove it by myself for about 1 hour. Did 3 launches along with heavy breaking on a service road to verify it wasn't going to grenade itself. Then I did a few pulls up onramps ont the highway, and then found a twisty road to try some cornering. I couldn't find any single fault. And because the mileage was so low, I didn't have a lot of concerns about maintenance since it hasn't really been driven enough to be coming up on any scheduled maintenance, other than the oil change which the dealer took care of. Also I won't be driving it too much (I have an Altima as a daily driver), so maintenance won't be a huge financial constraint.

LOL. My Altima is a 2016 that I bought a few months ago brand new. Already passing through 20,000 miles. I drive a lot of cross country for work and I really appreciate the comfort and amenities of it that the Z doesn't offer. Plus I can carry 3 golf buddies with their bags in it, and I get close to 40 mpg on the highway.

The message you posted might give some a reason not to buy a used GT-R. If maybe something like 50 (or possibly a lot more) interested parties subjected the car to significant testing, there is potentially some significant wear.
