A 3-month Hellride: Was it worth it?
My question is more for rhetorical purposes, but feel free to give your input nonetheless, as after all, it is a discussion forum.
So, I very carelessly bought my car. Sight unseen long distance, cash in hand, drove away for $4000. Motor blows up on the way home, add the cost of transport home (1300 miles), new motor, new clutch, new cats, installation, completely rewiring the ragtop, and other significant necessities. Long story short, my $4000 "bargain" became a $10000 "project car," and I'm probably $12000 deep if you include all the optional things I've done (new seats, wider new tires, brakes, headlight assemblies)....
I know, I know... my expenses are way greater than the market value of the car (probly $8K), and I already publicly admit my shame in buying it so carelessly, and bringing incredible levels of unnecessary anguish and worry into my life. So let's not talk about that, m'kay
So was it worth it? Well, the other side to this horror story is the simple fact that the result is AWESOME. It's not aesthetically perfect, though I never meant it to be... I'm okay with some dings and scratches if it runs great and drives well. And boy does she - I've never driven anything this powerful, and taking this thing out for a spin is just a pure thrill for me, every single time. It's been a great first month of actually being able to own, drive and enjoy it. I've even turned my wife around - at first she was quite displeased with my little escapade into high performance cars, but now she loves the wind in her hair, staring at the stars from the highway, and at least appreciates the special piece of engineering that it is. It is definitely our "weekender" car; Special trips or short vacations now happen in the Z.
So I guess you can't put a price tag on actually enjoying life a little more, and with a happier wife to boot, all because of a [relatively] inexpensive used car.
That's my long winded story... and I'm stickin' to it.

Someone else's 400 problems.
I paid 17K for my 07 Nismo with 38K miles. At the time, they were going for 20. 12K for a non-base great shape Z with about 60K miles is a sweet deal these days. Though, the 370z's are getting cheaper.

Made it really, REALLY clear that I was not asking for a financial assessment of my purchase and repair bills, simultaneously acknowledging that I wasted about $4000. I mean, did you even read a word of the third paragraph?
And to foolishly dignify your remark - turbo? Psht, no thanks, not for me. That's for people who race, tuning enthusiasts, car club and car show goers... which is just fine if you're into that. My goals are a smile on my face around the bends, the wind in my hair, and an ideal vacation vehicle. Since those are my needs, mssion accomplished.

Well, can't say I'm surprised that at least one person can't grasp the concept of a rhetorical question...

Top down driving in the Is exhilaration no doubt. I try not to count the money I have put in her anymore. I bought the car new and after mods to make her mine close to 40k plus after all is said and done. To this day I enjoy every ride. Quiet at idle, loud under throttle, top down with all the sights, sounds and smells is pure joy. Just as a side note I also drive an Evo which is nice as well but the Z is still the preference. As for ride enjoyment with exception of hp numbers, NA is the way to go!
Sorry so long

And very much agreed to the many who have expressed it so far: I think ignorance is bliss when it comes to the money. At least I'm not broke because of this. I mean, wasting money does suck, but I can still pay my mortgage and buy groceries .

Pics or it didn't happen, right? Lol...
Well here's one... Not much to look at, i mean it's a Silverstone Z with some nice suede seats in it A few aftermarket mods like the K&N drop in and Kinetix high flow cats. Blox plenum spacer too. A few extra ponies with some inexpensive performance parts... I'll be sticking with NA.

The same guy that you snap-at is the same guy that could help you solve a future problem.
There are members on this forum that I specifically avoid and I specifically dont help because how they behave and respond to other members. And vice-versa, there are members I do as much as I possibly can because how they behave on the forum.
just my two cents...

Thanks for the "advice," I suppose. But this isn't my first rodeo.
Free speech is a two way street. I never deny another's right to an opinion, nor my own right to deem said opinion misguided, irrelevant, or in this case, laughably uninformed.
I'm not disagreeing with you per sè, but, I think I can fend for myself in the nefarious swamp of common internet dimwits.
