2003 350z Broken traction control after changing tires?
So today I decided it was time to swap out my rear tires and I chose to size down on a single side wall size. Following this I began to drive my car and in whatever gear I'm in, including 6th, when I press on the gas a little more than gentle the traction system would kick in. i ended up turning off vdc and that solved the problem. About 15 minutes later on the highway I had my slip light, abs, and ebrake light turn on with the already on vdc. Now I'm just absolutely confused and am wondering if anyone has any insight on this it'll be greatly appreciated! Update: feelings are hurt, im sorry I simply was curious and using the forums. BUT anyways thanks for the insight and helping out!

...because its possible that the tire sizes are not the right overall diameter and that your tires are not rolling at the same speed, thus causing the computer to think your tires are slipping.

A single size (5%) on the aspect ratio equates to about an inch of reduction on the rear tires - assuming same width as the tires you took off, e.g 245/45 down to 245/40. Now your wheel speed sensors are telling the ECM your tires have lost traction and are spinning so the VDC does its job as intended by cutting throttle to mitigate.

I have an odd feeling that the traction control is not broken.

I've worn down the rears to the point where the traction control kicked in. Basically the combination of nearly bald rear tires plus new front tires is enough of a size difference to cause the issue.
For the record these were my track tires so it was kind of an excepted result

There is nothing wrong with the VDC... its working correctly - the problem is the tires are the wrong size. This is causing the computer to THINK the tires are spinning when they are not. Defeat VDC = car in ditch or wrapped around tree/light pole. This forum is full of people thinking they have better reaction times then a computer.

I know of people with about 100bhp that have put their cars off the road. And conversely, those with 500hp+ that haven't.
Safety isn't a function nor result of horsepower. And for most of the world who honestly don't know how (but think they can) drive fast *safely* with "just 300hp", VDC is an important safeguard for them (and others around them).
Oh, I fully get why one would want to turn off TCS or VDC; but the instances and reasons to do so are few and far between. One of those reasons isn't short tires. Wrongfully sized or stagger mismatched tires can be just as much of a handling issue as under/overinflation, wear, environmental conditions.
Seriously, the answer to this is the simplest of all answers to anything: Fix the mistake. In this case, by just getting the right size tires and call it square. Everyone makes a mistake here and there (except me of course ). Live and learn from the hole in your wallet.

I had this same issues when I went to a 17x9.5 square setup. My 350z is 100% track dedicated, and on my first track day I was getting this issue.
I unplugged the battery for 15min, and the issue went away. I have done 3 track days since. Not sure if that actually fixed the issue or if that my tire size was the issue to begin with because I also got a throttle position code.
Cliff notes: Disconnect battery for 15min. See if that fixes it. It is a free attempt at fixing the problem.
