Finally pulled the trigger on the OS Giken LSD. I finally found it on sale. Now I'm buying everything I need for the install including z1 inserts and diff bushings.
OS Giken claims their unit doesn't really produce any more heat than an open diff unit. However... this has not been my experience with clutch LSDs.
So I'll get a finend cover. Is the Z1 cover worth the extra money over a finned cover for just 0.5 liters of extra fluid?
Anybody have an OS Giken in their car and can chime in?
Protect your investment, get the Z1 cover and while you're at it get the mounts too
I'm not going solid so I'm not going going to get that brace thing. Did you have to grind down any of the cooling fins for your exhaust? That's the one thing I was worried about.
I have an OS Giken Diff, and it works great with the Nismo Diff Cover. No Issues, however I don't take my Z on the track or drift it, just spirited driving in the mountains. (I wasn't even aware that Z1 had a large capacity diff cover, good to know). If you're OS unit is brand new, make sure to follow the fluid change break in procedure. Btw, that OS fluid is special and very expensive!

I did grab the fluid. I'll buy something cheap for the first 300 miles
I boiled over the fluid many times with the Nismo cover and my OS Diff. I was planning on upgrading to the Z1 cover
This is what I was afraid of. I grabbed the extra capacity cover. Should get me a couple more laps or at least some more life out that crazy expensive os giken fluid.
do you track the car? i had the nismo cover with the quaife and didnt have an issue. but if terrasmak did, i would opt for the extra capacity one like you did

Haven't been to the track this year since its been mostly closed and then when it opened I already had plans for the track days. This car will see the track. I know everything goes wayyyyyyy hot at the track. I picked up the larger capacity cover. Maybe I'll take a temp sensor from work and wire it in somewhere so I can track my temperatures and post them for you all.

Still trying to figure out if I want Quaife, Z1 or a clutch type.
my car is street only and I do have 305s in the back, I don't want extra noise and drama, how was your experience with Quaife?
Go for the Z1, for the simple fact is has extra bungs to make adding a cooler (if needed) easier down the road.
Yup, grabbed it. No regrets. Now to practice my patience as the OS giken unit has a 6-8 weeks lead time. Ordering fancy parts = patience building exercise.
