On turning the key, the dash will light up and noise will happen. Battery was changed in 2016, fuel and oil filters have been changed and fuel pump was replaced a few months ago. I believe this is a spark plug or starter motor issue but any advice is appreciated.
I'll be either towing it to a garage at some stage this week or calling in RACQ in to do a diagnosis.

Could be a bad battery (even a new one). Do a proper carbon pile load test or internal resistance test. Do not trust an auto parts store to do this, because they just want to sell you a battery. Remember, at this stage, your battery is most likely still under warranty. You can test the starter either electronically (if you have the proper $$ tool) or on a bench. Again, 99% of the time, the auto parts store will try to sell you a new part, whether you need it or not. The trick is to watch them bench test the suspect starter, write down the results and have them pull a new (rebuilt) starter out of the box and run the same test. If the results are the same, your starter is fine. Otherwise you can replace the starter.

Could be a bad starter or poor ground connection somewhere. But I would recommend throwing a socket on the crank and see if you can rotate the engine over by hand. Based on the rapid clicking/snapping and "loudness" , I think the starter is getting plenty of juice, so if the engine isn't turning over, it could be locked up somehow.

If the engine rotates with relative ease, then the starter may not be meshing properly with the flywheel or you could have a bad solenoid.

As Zak said, never a bad idea to test the battery and/or starter. I recently helped a buddy of mine replace a start on his Acura RSX. The issue was intermittent and required many bench tests at the local auto store to verify the unit was faulty.

if its the starter, he would be able to at least jump start the car. jump it, then unplug the battery, it will tell you if it is the starter when it dies. as of right now, it looks like your battery is death, but it could be because the starter failed on you while running.
