2006 Nissan 350z For Sale Advice
I found a 2006 Z for sale for $3,991. It has a clean car fax, but 5 owners. Also has 192,xxx miles. Is that a fair price or should I talk it down? Buying this Z to drive the **** out of it, then when engine blows, drop in a built HR and single turbo it.

If it's a dealership, do you have to ask whether or not to negotiate?? NO ONE pays asking at ANY dealership. No one smart, anyways.
A built HR, eh? Lemme guess, the FB crowd has you sold on the HR being better..... Well, you'd better negotiate hard because you're gonna need every penny to get the right radiator support, ECM, harness, hood, transmission, driveshaft, and how many other components no one ever factors into their dreamermobiles.
And why a single snail when there's dual intake tracts to take advantage of and there's very few, if any single kits available when twins are the way to go on an HR.
So how much you have budgeted for this project? Hope it's at least 5x the cost of the car itself.

5x the cost of the car is not enough. That would be about 15k. I’ve read extensively on Twin turboing a Z and have figured out it’s at least 15k to twin turbo it in the proper and reliable way. I have 30k to do this project. I had a z when I was 15 years old and totaled it. So this is a dream project for me to do. To have a car that’s only 30k blow the doors off a GTR, ZR1 At the track and freeway, A-Mazing. I just wanted to know if 4K was a lot for a z with almost 200k miles. And I understand it is a lot, so I will be offering 3k flat.
thank you for your reply.

If you want an HR, get an HR. It's inefficient to do the swap. Also, assuming it's the one I see on AutoTrader, it's an automatic. So factor in a transmission swap too unless you want to dump 30K into that.

That is a bit steep for a high mileage Z that has been around the bush, but if they take $3k out the door no BS I'd take it. How are you planning to "blow" this engine? My DE has 180k on it and it just won't stop, granted I do keep it topped off with oil. They are pretty solid engines, I don't think I would ever go though the hassle and swap it for an HR, at that price your better off putting a junk yard LS in the car and spending around $8,000-$10,000 (that's if you are able to do the swap yourself) I just don't quite understand all the hype with HR swaps when you can have a v8 car for the same price with tons of China choo-choo options.
Either way, if you are willing to dump this much money into an old clapped out Z, perhaps just buy a $10,000 car with an HR already in it and use the $20k left over in your budget to modify it? Just my opinion, I wish you luck with whatever you decide and hope to see some build updates!
