Another one bites the dust
 

Yesterday morning I was on my way to work, going straight through an intersection featuring entrance ramps to I-95. A limo driver, coming the other way, made his left turn right into my left front fender. Big Chrysler loses its front end to the radiator, 350Z ends up against the traffic control box on the sidewalk. All air bags deploy, I slightly jammed my right “finger”(that one), and have a little soreness on the right side of my lower back. I now know why 4 point safety harnesses are used in racing. The right side front tire(new, of course) blew upon hitting the curb, and the impact lowered the roof on the drivers side by an inch or two. She(04.5 Enthusiast, LeMans Sunset with 6 speed) had a few owners before me, made it to 130K miles on the original clutch and transmission. Definitely the most fun car I have ever owned. I had her for 5+ years and almost 45K miles.I was too shaken up to take pix, but I may post a pic or two later.RIP!

No, the two seater thing did not work for the rest of my family. The wife lent out my Maxima to the 25 year old across the street, who totalled it in broad daylight-which is how I got to scratch my Z itch. As I like to row my own I am thinking of a Mazda3 or 6. Not much out there with a stick anymore.

After I get into a rental I will try to snap a few-then see if I am clever enough to post them.

Such a bummer, sorry to hear. I hear the safety rating of these small cars isn't the greatest (according to the first few google links when searching 350z safety rating) So I am glad to hear you made it out safely! I am not sure how much of a Honda fan you are but I recently purchased a new Civic 6 speed as a daily, Honda is still making quite a few manual cars.

He hit me right behind the front wheel, and pushed my door back about an inch while lowering the roofline by 1 or 2 inches on the drivers side. All the airbags looked beautiful to me after deploying. I do like Hondas, keeping my options open until I know how much I am getting for her.

Very sorry to hear of this shunt. Not sure of what the speeds were, but it sounds like they were high enough to completely total your Z. Sad. It did what it was supposed to: crumple zones cushioned the impact and airbags deployed as they should have. Your beautiful Z gave its life to protect yours.

It was a 35MPH zone, I probably was over 30 but definitely under 40. He was most likely going slower than that, but Chrysler 300's are heavy cars. I am thankful for the protection the Z did provide, believe me. My back is still hurting a little bit, and I am glad he hit the front fender and not my door directly. I would be even more thankful if he had looked first.

So, you have a 2 door Vette and a 4 door Vette?

That's awful. Sorry man. I was actually looking at mazda 3's before I test drove a Z. Fell in love with the Z's kick. This one's pretty sexy though.

traded the vette in.. its an amazing car, just not for a daily. not to mention they gave me $27k for it, owed $13k. not bad for a 10 year old car with 58k miles

I am seriously considering a Cadillac ATS. It is a surprisingly great driving car.
