350z coolant
Okay I have a 04 350z and when I checked the coolant overflow tank there was oil mixed with the coolant but it was still green just thick and a darker green tent. After some research I went out after the car was cold and took the radiator cap off and the coolant was green and didn’t have any oil in that. Started the car and watched the coolant to see if any air bubbles apperead, after watching long enough for the car to warm up no bubbles appeared and no change in color or thickening. Not sure if I may just need to flush the system and replace with new proper fluid or if there is some other problem other than head gasket? car does not over heat at all either and also runs fine |
When the car is cold, just take the overflow tank off, and empty that crud that's in there firstly.
Post some photo's of it before you empty it so we can see what the hell you mean exactly. And yes, to be safe - 100% flush the coolant out and look at it's consistency. It's probably worth taking off your oil filler cap to see if any signs of coolant too (white/milky residue on the cap). Since you're only 4 posts in, is this a new car for you ? |
Could just be old coolant starting to break down, after years of use it's not uncommon for the color/consistency to change and look darker or even brown. You could be mistaking rust deposits for oil. In general, coolant systems in vehicles should be flushed out about every 3-5 years. This change interval will depend on the type of coolant used, some of the newer stuff lasts much longer.

I do want to add that the Nissan OEM green coolant is actually a bit darker green, than the aftermarket bright green coolant.
I thought the coolant in my car was very old/ dirty, and bought brand new coolant from Nissan, and it turned out to be the same shade green. |
