what type of plastic is the 2005 350z Bumper Cover?
I need to repair my bumper cover and need to know what type of plastic is it to pick the right welding rod.
Anybody know? I don't want to take the cover off just look for the code then put it back on to order the rods....so if anyone has one off, could they look at the back side and give me the codes? |
As a racer, I take off the bumpers quite a bit, but have never seen any code that indicate what type of urethane is being used. There's usually a production tag with part numbers and other Nissan codes like 'VPF' or 'WZW' that I'm not familiar with.
Is this the kind of info you're seeking? What kind of plastic welder are you using? |

If someone asked me that, I'd probably respond with "Poly". And they'd look at me like... "Idiot." OK, so this is the tag on the back of my new, REPRO front bumper cover. (Again, repeat, REPRO, NOT OEM, as indicated on the tag itself). Don't see (or "recognize") anything to indicate its "type". https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/my350z....7d156401a7.jpg |

Hey guys...yeah the markings i'd be looking for would be embossed on the back side of the bumper cover...not on a label per se
some of the letters would be PP - which I think is polypropylene (verified that yes that is what it means) TPO -Thermoplastic Polyolefin (often applied to elastomers) and TEO - Olefinic Thermoplastic Elastomer I'd be using a a simple soldering type plastic welder from harbour freight or eastwood....BUT the welding rod needs to be known....some of the kits come with all 3 rod type https://www.eastwood.com/tpo-teo-pp-...-80w-iron.html fiberFlex is another rod I could use...these are for TPO |

Well gee, for those who agreed with my 2nd comment in post #3, above. Poops to you. Hahahahahahahaha! :icon17:

Update: The cheap kit from harbor freight worked. They had the right sticks as part of the kit. Bought stainless steel mesh too and melted that into the bumper on the backside.
