370z VHR Motordyne Long tube Headers on 350z HR
TO ALL THE HR OWNERS!!!
I worked with Motordyne on some R&D of their 370z(VHR) long tube headers to fit on the HR. I was curious to see if they would fit knowing the flange and header bolts would be the same from the HR to the VHR. They were able to fit with some minor clearancing of the trans tunnel. The reason the trans tunnel has to be clearanced a little is because the 370Z(VHR) engine sits lower in the chassis than the 350z(HR) I am reaching out to the forums to see what questions anyone has about the install and if some of you would consider Motordyne in your search for long tube headers I have an in depth explanation on how the install went, and exactly what was done to make them fit including pictures below. Let me know what you guys think!!
Ok so it still sort of hard to really explain.
I outlined the two runners that get close to the body when the headed is mounted.
There is a secondary piece of sheet metal right here on the body that has a pretty significant crease protruding.
This crease is mainly what hits the runners.
In the first couple photos you will notice a small hole in the sheet metal just beneath the bend, and in the following photos you will notice it is almost closed.
Had to hammer the majority of this area in about 1/4” to clear the runners on the header.
Also, you need to fold the opening for the steering shaft in about 1/4”.
This will allow the steering shaft to move just far enough over to get the header in from the bottom between it and the head/bellhousing.
You also have to remove rear studs from the head to get the header into position
