Small teeny weenie build list. Turbo'd in the next few months???

My build so far has been going great, and it's now getting to the time when I'm now saving for a turbo kit. I'm torn between a couple of turbo kits, but I have a good idea of how much I'll have to save for it. I'm looking at the Kanji turbo kit (which comes with piping only and I'll have to supply the turbo and wastegate) as well as the REV9 kit (with replacing the turbo, the wastegate, and an oil catch can kit). I know that the kanji kit is of higher quality than the rev9, but it's going to take more time to get all the parts required. I'm just giving a quick update.

REV9
Going to replace the turbo with entry-level precision
Replacing wastegate
AND MORE (i haven't thought it through...)

Kanji Kit
Gives instructions on what's recommended to make around 350-400whp+

I ended up getting some Anovia wheels 18-8.5 +35
Megan racing lowering springs (looking to upgrade to Coilover, will invest in some nice shocks after the turbo)
Z1 rear camber arms
Akebono brake pad

Simple setup as of now. I have no idea why I never take a picture of the darn car, but I'll be sure to have a picture in the next update. Based on my job and the way I'm setting up the payments, this build is super doable and so far I'm having a great time with this. hopefully, before I move out of state for college, I'll have this build fully done! I'm still gonna be adding some interior things such as seats, a new steering wheel, a new console, etc, but I haven't been researching them as much. I'm hoping my dad doesn't kick my ass for being so reckless with my money LOL.

wheels are tiny, and you will be limited on tires. you should get rid of those, and pick up some 18x9.5 +15 (or lows 20s) for the front, and18x10.5+15 (or low 20s) for the rear so you can get a beefier tire. you will need it for the power you are adding

I had a previous posting about my potential wheels. I saw replies around my choice being too big so I settled with this one haha. I’ll just stick with it. I’m not gonna track it or anything in the near future so, at least hopefully, it’s aesthetically nice.

At +35, those wheels will be sunken in quite a bit if that's the aesthetic you're going for.

If you're not tracking it, then there's no need for coilovers. Save your money and just get some decent springs and struts.

its because you wanted to do a 19x10.5 in the front

it’s a process.. ;-; if it looks bad I’ll get some spacers. I was gonna get 18-10.5 before but I found a really good deal on the wheels im getting so… I’ll just run w it

Budget builds never work out. Either spend the money to do it right, or just enjoy you Z stock.

RENFRO Dec 12, 2022 07:02 AM

Unfortunately that's just a list of bad choices.

Spend the money on proper wheels and good coilovers.

I run a 19x10.5 +22 on all four corners. You said akebono pads, so I assume you have or plan to run akebono brakes. It's doubtful they will fit with the wheels you have. Take your time and do things right the first time.

Love that build. Also looks like I’m ****ing up a bunch for just diving into the deep end. Lemme just get my ass kicked and learn from making horrible decisions. It is what it is man, I live and I learn. Thanks for the advice tho, let’s hope whatever choices I make further down the line aren’t riddled with impatience and impulse.

18x8.5? And +35??

How is that an upgrade? Skinny as my stock rear Track wheels with more weight.

I’m pretty sure there have been at least 3-4 RECENT threads on tires/wheels with every one of them making the correct recommendations. Seriously? Heck, now that I think about it, one of those threads was yours. Memory serves, several people made recommendations that you decided not to follow. Alrighty then, know where this is going…

sorry to disappoint lol. It seems like a lot of people are bashing me for this choice but the thread before this one I was trying to get big wheels but they were said to be too big. 19-10.5 +20? Whether this build is a **** up or not, I’m gonna be the one responsible for the build. Don’t stress too much about it man haha, I’ve been actively trying to balance advice and my own personal wants, and whether that means my car looks like it’s sitting on skateboard wheels or it looks like it’s a monster truck, at the end of the day it’s my car. This is an L and I take it. Doesn’t mean I’m not listening to any advice, I simply picked the wheel since the discount was insane.

MicVelo Dec 13, 2022 05:03 AM

Oh, I’m not stressing one iota. Your money, your car. Just another post causing the old timers who know tried n’ true to not wanna bother any longer. Whatever.

Heel Til I Die Dec 13, 2022 05:19 AM

I've never understood the whole "Hey, I need advice on _______ . Ok cool. I completely disregarded it and did the opposite to save some money."

What's the point of asking in the first place?

travlee Dec 13, 2022 05:49 AM

but in reality he wont save money, eventually he will spend more to get a proper setup

terrasmak Dec 13, 2022 06:14 AM

18x8.5 wheels are not worth buying.

you have another car correct ? Trying to piece together an eBay turbo kit, the car will be down for a long time
