Cruise Control won't set

Today I pressed the cruise control switch on my 2003 350Z Performance model. The light on the dash came on but when I engaged the set switch the cruise control didn't set. I tried it several times to no avail. It worked last time I used it. The car has 37200 miles on it. The only mods done to the car was an aftermarket Pioneer Radio it worked after that was installed and a backup camera that is connected to the radio display and tapped into the backup switch.

I haven't checked relays or fuses yet but I figured it may not be a fuse if the dash light comes on when I press the on button.

Most likely culprit is either the ASCD clutch switch and/or the ASCD brake switch. If you've got an auto, then obviously there's no clutch switch.

The CRUISE light will still illuminate on the dash, but it won't set.

The fix could be as easy as adjusting the switch/pedal, or you may need a new switch. Seems as though these switches wear out and a fairly common issue.

Some ASCD issues come up with aftermarket steering wheels, but that generally prevents the cruise light from coming on.

Is your brake light on?
Are you going under 91mph?

I don't think my brake light was on. I was doing 70 in a 65 when I tried to set the cruise control.

I have a manual. Real sports cars don't shift themselves.

Thanks, those are easy enough to check and replace if necessary. Hopefully that's it. If I have to replace the switches they're inexpensive and easier to replace than the clutch switch pad.

Check your brake and clutch pedals. Should be a rubber plug in a strap on each pedal. If plugs are gone replace with new one .

That was it! I've replaced the bumper on the clutch pedal last year. Didn't think about the brake pedal having one too. I went and looked with a flashlight and the hole behind the switch was empty. I shined the light down on the floor and found a little black round piece of rubber. I couldn't find the nub that held it in place. You saved me $15. I ordered a 4 pack of new bumpers. They're handy to have in the glove box. I would have figured it out after buying and replacing the cruise control switch to see no bumper.

thanks for your reply.

Well I thought that was it. I replaced the bumper on the brake pedal for the cruise control switch. Took it out for a test drive. Cruise light came on, got it up to 55 shifted into 5th hit the set switch...nothing. I bought a cruise control switch and replaced it. That didn't fix the problem. The button on the switch contacts the bumper and presses in all the way. The brake light switch light switch functions properly, and the clutch safety switch functions. Anything else I should look at?

You mentioned that the only aftermarket modifications were the head unit and back-up camera, but do you have aftermarket taillights, or the OEM filament style (non-LED)?
