FYI for maybe 800 miles or so while the car is breaking in you're gonna get all kinds of smells. its normal and passes in time.

General consensus is not to go over 4k for the first 1200 miles. But lots of people have all sorts of routines they go through when breaking in a new car.

Also, don't drive it at the same RPMs all the time (such as, drive on the Interstate at 65 MPH in 6th gear for 1,200 miles just to break it in. Vary the RPMs some, but you don't have to get wild in doing it. For example, when you're driving home from work, do some driving in 6th and some in 5th.

I'm nearing the end of my breakin period now and I don't remember any weird smells especially burnt rubber. That doesn't sound normal to me.

you guys do know that burning oil smells like burning rubber right? but if that's normal for break-in then i guess i wouldn't be concerned.
