Should I buy TWO 350Z's????
 

I have a Track 350Z on order, delivery late November or early December. I'm going crazy for a Z. You understand.

There's a 6MT PPW Touring sitting available in a local dealer's showroom. I could buy that car, drive it for two months, and then sell it when my pre-ordered Track comes in!

I've thought about this a lot. If I take good care of it, break it in right, keep it nice and clean and Zaino it, I ought to be able to break even on it, right?

Nov 20th: Available now - 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring 6MT, Pike's Peak White, Frost leather, aero package. 1800 miles, $37,000

(the price is an estimated bottom line after dealer prep and sales tax)

I'm not rich but I am pre-approved, and I can basically write the dealer a check for it tomorrow. The whole thing hinges on me being able to sell the Touring quickly at the right price in late November. If that doesn't happen, I figure the worst that could happen is I'd have to dump it, lose a thousand or two, and my payments would go up a little on the second car.


Whaddya think? Is it a smart move or a foolish move?

I really doubt you can break even as you say. This means you are driving a car for 2-3 months for free. First there is the issue of sales tax. Does your state have any? and when selling a car is previous tax applied to the new car? This is some serious money right there.

Second I would never pay MSRP for a used car especially one that is in no way a limited production car. I know the Z06 has been out for a while, but the diffrence between new and slightly used one is like $4K.

I guess you have heard stories about people selling M3's for what they paid for them, but I don't buy that either. I'd rather wait 3 months for a new M3 than accept some used one. And the M3 is far more limited production than the 350Z.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

In most cases not a smart move. But with the popularity of the Z you probably can break even. I feel your pain - mine won't be here until late October early November.

As "Guns and Roses" would say... "just a little patience... yah yah"

Buy them both, and KEEP THEM BOTH!

or you could drive one of em...take the other one apart and put it back together...:D

You'd probably be better off just getting gouged at a dealership to get the car you want sooner, and cancelling your pre-order, because at least then you don't have worry about selling a car, and the 3k or so extra they charge you will be less than the amount you'll lose. If you call around a lot, you might be able to find what you want within another week or two, and maybe even for MSRP if you're lucky.

get them both, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. if you could afford it do...i love my ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Buy the second one and build it as a full-on race car!

Buy both and keep one in mint condition, to be sold as a classic 25 years from now.;)

The track one...But by 25 years from now, it will be all rusted and will break down when u turn on the engine. :D

just wait for yours! Dont buy one for just 2 months! Wait for yours. No offence, but buying a new one just because you cant wait for your is pretty lame.

Thanks, everyone, for the opinions. I'm not sure if I could get all my money out of it in two months or not, but I suspect I might be able to if I tried hard enough. I paid $25,000 for a 2001 Honda Odyssey a year and a half ago and current retail for it (25000 miles, excellent condition) right now is $26,000. It's a similarly high-demand vehicle.

The dealer wants $2000 over MSRP and I will NOT pay that, but if he's willing to let it go for MSRP I still may do it.

why not just keep the touring model...theres not a lot of difference between the track and touring anyways.

Yeah, I thought of that. It's a different dealer & I might lose my deposit. I thought a lot about a Touring to begin with, but I don't need a lot of the "comfort" features and I want the Brembos and Rays.

That's another reason I'm considering it. If I did it, then I'd have experience driving both models. It would be (I think) very interesting to get used to the Touring, which I think would be heavier and wouldn't perform QUITE as well, then changing over to the Track.

IMO, there's no way you'll be able to break even. Why? Because even if you're able to sell it for the same price that the dealer charged you, you would still be out several thousand dollars due to TAXES.

Yeah, you're right. That's where the plan falls down. If you look up the 6MT Touring it says around $33k, but with the Aero package & mats & etc. etc. it gets to $35k and add sales tax and it bottom-lines over $36k. A re-seller doesn't have to charge sales tax, but unless I find a guy who just WANTS this car NOW (kinda like me! ;) ) it's hard to ask that much over sticker for a used car. Never mind that the additional charges are justifiable, most buyers would look at the 33k they'd see on the web & think I'm way over.

But if I was willing and able to absorb a little loss..... ;)

Anyway, I probably won't do it, but it's VERY tempting! :icon28:
