mods that don't effect warranty?
Hey guys,
Finally got the Z and have a "little" extra cash to spare. What mods are out there that don't mess with the Nissan Warranty, and $0-$1000ish? Also if anyone else can mabye post a link to the mod, so i can research it a bit...that would be great. If not, then just a list. I don't want my car sounding like a cheesy suped up Civic, where you can hear it a mile away either. thats just awfull. |
The ONLY things you can do that wont effect warranty are Nismo S tune parts.
Nismo exhaust. Look for it on www.performancenissan.com You can do a plenum or intake and swap then with stock ones if you need warranty work... |
www.performancenissanparts.com in case you can't find the parts. And Jsn350Z is right, warranties only work with Nismo S-Tune parts. And even then, you need to have Nissan install them for you.
|
My bad, wrong link.. lol..
Yes they say nissan needs to install them, but I told nissan I wanted to install my exhaust myself and they said its ok with them... |
I remember in one of the post, someone had said that you can do all the mods all the wya up to the point of FI, or the CAMS thats some people were installing. So anything aftremarket you install is going to void the warranty?
|
ANYTHING aftermarket, other then S tune parts, will void THAT PART of your warranty.
Install clutch/flywheel, bye bye drivetrain warranty, install suspension, then your suspension won't be covered anymore. Basically, if something goes wrong with your car, and they think your mod could have caused it then they have to proove to you that it IS what caused it by law. |
^ yea that's very true
|
what would people reccomend for a first time modder.
A couple things that are cheap...then getting a little more expensive.... What about a K&N filter...or will it make my car sound like a modded Civic that drives me crazy? |
You can start with a JWT pop charger. And if something serious happens you can just take it off. I have had some warranty workj done on my car and just left it on and had no problems. Thats a cheap mod, and can be swapped out in 20-30 minutes if you need to.
Then you can get the Nismo exhaust, no worries there. High flowcats won't really void much except the exhaust, which I don't think you will have any problems with. Same with a plenum, you can swap it out in 15-3 0 minutes depending hw experianced you are. Those are the four mods I will have on my car for performance. I too like my warranty and want to keep it. I will now be turning myattention to body/interior/security for my Z. |
performancenissan dot com is not us...
we are performancenissanparts.com any NISMO S-Tune part is a factory nissan part and accessory.... NISMO R-Tune most dealers dont know the difference between... Enjoy your modding! its fun! |
a K&N dropin air filter is a easy mod, with small gains, and will not void warranty
|
Originally posted by mode101 a K&N dropin air filter is a easy mod, with small gains, and will not void warranty but anyway .. the filter is a wearable part so not covered under nissan warranty any way... if you damage your MAF sensor then they could try to link that to your air intake system.. but it is easy enough and fun to put the stock one back on and put the aftermarket one back on after you relize its not caused by the intake... |
My dealer (hertrich) saw my popcharger and said it voided my warranty. Pretty funny since all the other dealers in Delaware saw it and said it didnt.

Pretty funny since all the other dealers in Delaware saw it and said it didnt. you found mod friendly dealers and one that isnt... if you go to a dealer for a problem with your windows or suspension.. they cant deny you work becuase of an intake... if you go because of an irratic idle... they could possibly link it to your intake since your intake could have mucked up the maf which helps control idle... and it could be something like a vacuum leak too... |
If I swap out the OEM wheels with Nismo but use non-OEM size tires (ie, 245/40 front and 275/40 rear), is that any reason for any dealership to deny warranty work for suspension related issues?

The parts have to be installed by a nissan dealership or else the warranty is void.
