I hope for the sake of the Z car's future they can get their act together. You can say that this has a lot to do with all the new models introduced, but so haave other companies which actually gained in the survey.

Looks like Renault's influence on Nissan is taking some toll.

First, consider the source. "The Detroit News", I’m sure they’re not biased…:rolleyes:
And this little tidbit "…domestic brands such as Cadillac, Buick and Mercury are gaining rapidly on industry leader Lexus." Yeah, right. And "Hyundai leaps to No. 3." Pleeezh.

You can play all kinds of games with statics. The J.D. Power's chart VR3 posted shows Porsche 911 the top premium sports car. But the article in the Detroit News show only Volkswagen & Hummer with more ‘problems’ than Porsche.:confused:

Also, I guess it all depends on your definition of “problem”. Grease on a window is a problem, but so is faulty steering. There are problems and then there are PROBLEMS.

I own 2 Nissans and a Honda. Thanks, but it will be a cold day in h*** before I buy American.

The article is based on JD Power new car surveys and uses data from consumers who own the cars. How is that biased?


Yes some problems are major and some minor, neverless they are problems.

Also, these are rankings for the entire brand and not one car model in particular. When you talk about Porsche specifically the article did mention probelms with the Cayenne which far outsells the 911 right now and would account heavily for the rankings.

Even GM and Ford have their good and bad models for reliability.

I love when they cosider it a "premium" sports car :icon4:

It all depends on how you write the story and use the data.

IMO the headline is biased toward making US manufactures look good.

“New car quality complaints drop; Hyundai leaps to No. 3; Big 3 boast gains. Cadillac, Buick, Mercury inch toward leader Lexus as Nissan loses ground”

You could write it this way:

New car quality complaints drop; Hyundai advances to No. 3; Big 3 gains, but still lag behind the industry average. Cadillac, Buick, Mercury inch toward leader Lexus as Porsche loses ground."

It's curious why they cite Nissan’s decline in the headline instead of Porsche. Nissan was down 9 % while Porsche had 36 % drop. A cynic might point out that Nissan’s sales eat into American auto sales more than Porsche.

I admit, though, I have I bias toward Japanese autos.

I also wonder how new owners expectations come into play in the survey. In other words, an owner of a new Hyundai might not be as picky as an owner of a new Porsche. When you sink $15,999 into a Sonata, as opposed to $69,999 for a Cayenne, maybe one’s “problems” are different.

Just a thought.

Nissan just opened hired a few thousand NEW workers and opened a completely NEW manufacturing plant. I'd expect quality to drop in the near term.

The problem with these "surveys" is that you don't have access to the raw data. Just a summary.

They just introduced a number of new models of course it's going to be a little higher. Those kinds of stats are pointless anyway unless they tell you how many people were surveyed, when they were surveyed, and how they were chosen. I was never surveyed nor was anyone I know so how many people are they asking?

With all the new models Nissan has introduced I'm not surprised at a drop in ratings.......which, I'll bet, is temporiary.

Lets check back in a year or two.

Agreed...the story I read about this on CNN/Money pointed out that the majority of the drop for Nissan was attributable to the introduction of the Titan and the Armada. Being that these models are in their first year, I see no reason why this won't improve.

where is the RX8, which all the Review decided to give most of the award to RX8 instead of 350z? :D :p

aren't the titan and armada also the only cars in their lineup being manufactured in the US.

Not so...Along with the brand-new Truck/SUV plant in Mississippi, they also have a factory in Tennessee that manufactures Altimas and Maximas.

I hate to say it, but our 04 Maxima and 03 Infiniti FX have had more problems than I've had with any new car right out the gate. However, both were new models, and both were produced in the first 2 months of production (Maxima- 2nd week, Infiniti- 2nd month). However, the problems were quickly resolved and absolutely none since then. I sort of expect it being the first year production...prototypes and test mules can only tell so much. Real problems to me are when the car won't run...NEVER had that kind of problem...had that continually with the domestic brands I used to own.
