Stolen Z's
My dealer told me that 4 Z cars in S. Cali have been stolen and unrecovered.
I am getting lojack put on my car this tuesday, but i am kind of worried about it getting jacked now. |
ummm what?
I thought the Z keys had a special chip that makes them virtually impossible to hotwire?
So if they were stolen they must have been yanked up on a flatbed or something? I'm NOT buying any additional alarm system for my Z. The factory stuff is plenty IMHO. |
Sounds like the story we had about the wrecked and burned Z's we had before. We never DID get the pics that were promised of those did we?

Any car can be stolen, period. That's what insurance is for.

Don't forget that flatbeds are typically used to steal vehicles... there's nothing you can do to foolproof that.
|
I agree any car can be stolen...but, in the case of a lojack system, its not an alarm its a theft recovery system which is a different ball game, that also helps with the flatbed issue. I know I know, its not fool proof but for the price, its a no brainer to have.

If they really want it, it is gone! |
Originally posted by aggie300zx ...its a no brainer to have. hehe, I thought it was the other way around "you have no brain if you have it" seriously...by the time you notice your car missing, itll be in mexico. Esp. in san diego. I mean, most of the time its at night or at a restaurant or at the gym. Your car wont have ANYTHING, let alone the lojack left after 20-30 minutes. If there are people who are stealing Z's, they arent stupid, and they know what lojack is... stop wasting money and lower you deductible! |
Would you rather get your car back with the interior stripped, clutch, fried on blocks with no rims/tires and have it fixed by the insurance agency, or just have them give you cash to get a new Z?
|
If any of my cars are ever stolen I never want to see it again....

My decision on this matter has long passed, so not much I can do now. As everyone has pointed out "if they want your car, they can get it"...while I totally believe that their are stupid criminials out there and if for the nominal price for the added protection, I can recover a vehicle from that stupid criminal than I'm going to do it.
I know its not fool proof, but I can't just put a "steal me" sign on my car, I still want to try and increcease prevention, ofcourse within financial reason. Actually on this subject a coworkers brother is having a alarm installed in his truck called a Pain Generator. When an intruder is in your vehicle it emits a very loud frequency that makes you sick to your stomach. Not sure how it all works but sounds pretty cool. |

Actually, I would like to install a pair or cauterizing blades that stab the perp in the neck and heart and dispatches an ambulance to pick the guy up before I even know about it. |

It most likely uses ultra-low frequency sound. I don't think its audible but it sure as hell makes you sick as a dog. Cool stuff, eh? That's almost as good as my idea to wire in an electrical shock system. I've only been worried about bugs with it and getting my own ass shocked. lol |
I know its a little off topic but, my car was broken into last night. Not a Z but...it sucks just as much. I was leaving for work @ 6:30am and noticed my truck lid was opened. I knew that was a bad sign. I go around to the drivers side and notice my window was bashed out and all of my stereo equipment was gone. This happened in the driveway of my house! My insurance is sending someone out to fix the window. As far as the audio eqmt...its a loss. To top it all off, I have an alarm w/a motion sensor but, it was off. My transmitter or receiver was not working so my remote wasn't working. So I had the valet on. I suspect this punk down the street. Ironically his car was broken into also. I think its a ploy myself. Anyway, I just needed to vent. $1200 of stereo eqmt down the drain.

any reputable insurance company should cover your aftermarket stereo. produce the receipts. if not, there is always your homeowners insurance.

It is possible to
recover your car before it is really harmed too much.
This is a thread that I listed earlier. https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....&threadid=7103 Eric |
If my car gets stolen.....I hope they never find it. I want a new one. There is no way to know what your clutch looks like after the recovery or what damage may have been done to other mechanical components......bouncing off the rev limiter.....wear and tear on tires....ect. Insurance wouldn't give you anything for the damage unless the clutch slipped so bad the car was not movable.
