What's the max HP that can be obtained on N/A??

Without FI, what kind of max HP can you obtain on the Z? and what type of mods are needed? Just wandering if anyone has fully modded to maximize the power output on the Z...

How much money you have usually dictates how fast you can make your car.

Regardless of whether or not you go Forced Induction or N.A.

There is an adage my friend's uncle (who has been souping up hotrod muscle cars since he was 15...) always says to me:

Speed costs, how much can you afford?

Pretty much everything directly connected to the engine of the car (including the engine) can have money spent on it to increase performance.

Heck you could even have a motor custom built for your car.... Now thats some serious cashola right there $_$...

Jetpilot718 Jun 6, 2004 06:38 PM

Boy would I love a Nissan engineer's answer to that question. More importantly, id like to know how I can turbo this car safely, if that's even possible. I like to work off of fact...

350zroadster Jun 6, 2004 08:13 PM

about 330 hp at the crank

Janus Jun 6, 2004 08:26 PM

If he had a custom built motor, he could probably get even more right? =P

Or he could bore the cylenders...

mmm stroker....

I think the better question is what's the best times you can get with an N/A modded 350 engine. Unless you can translate those dyno horses into actual performance they are only paper horses.

Without changing the crank/pistons/rods.... we are running out of things to throw at my car. A plenum might be the next thing in line.... but we are still short of 280RWHP which was our goal with my car. To date we have..... JWT intake, JWT cams, Nismo headers, R/T cats, JIC y-pipe, nismo exhaust, UD pullys, Ported/Polished heads and intake runners, and 6 hours straight of T/S ECU programming. We have used a dyno we trust... but they all read different, so who really knows... but with all the money we've thrown at this to get 47 extra RWHP... well is it really worth it??? MAYBE there is something to be said about a reliable F/I kit.......

Well I am at 263 at the wheels or around 310-315 at the crank and all I am missing are Headers, Cams and ECU.

I am going to try the Greedy emanage in the next couple of weeks to see what that can do, but will probably leave Headers and Cams out due to expense, that would go a long way to a TT kit fund.

if youve got the cash there is always nitro meth, im sure you could get at least 700hp out of that and a fully built motor :D

FairladyZ Jun 7, 2004 06:01 AM

a million hp

Everyone who is thinking about beginning a mod program and those who aren't too far into it yet hear what Jeff is saying. He knows because he has been there. I just wish Jeff had answered his own question about was it worth it. It is beginning to look more and more like F/I is the most cost effective way to SIGNICANTLY INCREASE rwhp. Thanks a lot Jeff for this post and your honest evaluation.

i think the saying is, "you don't have enough money to go that fast." i know i sure dont.

anyways, the posibilites are endless man. really. endless.

bwzabodyn Jun 7, 2004 01:49 PM

A pretty extensively modded N/A Z can be pretty quick... you just have to make sure you're doing it the right way... key parts = Clutch/flywheel upgrade for 6mts and raised stall converter for 5ats... a car w/ above & intake, plenum, cams, headers, test pipes, exhaust, some tuning (ie TS reflash), and some sticky tires would be an extremely quick & RELIABLE street car...

I have a Kinetix plenum and GReddy EVO II exhaust on the way, but as far as N/A mods, that's it - time to start saving for a Vortech next spring...

Jeff@Performance Jun 8, 2004 04:57 AM

Forgot about the flywheel on the mod list.. :D. Tried a few... Nismo, Tilton, Exedy... none of them make the car as fast as the Tilton... but again, big trade off in drivability.

heres just a guess... Nissan is only getting 82hp per liter of displacement out of the vq35... its a good number, but its no where near the numbers some other v6 puts out at the crank.
i.e. M3's 3.2 liter I6@333hp, thats roughly 104hp per liter. The NSX's 3.2 liter V6 is 90.6 hp per liter of displacement... I think Nissan has lots of room to get more power out of the vq35 NA. My guess is 340+hp, the problem is wherther Nissan wants to do it... since it would probably drive up the cost of the car.

On another note, on Speed! magazine, an artical talked about the GT500 350z race car. The artical said Nissan plan to get 500hp from the VQ35 engine NA. I forget which page its on, but its somewhere near the front, in that artical that talks about the upcoming nissan GTR

Jsn350Z Jun 8, 2004 08:09 PM

372.98 HP is the most HP you can get at the crank NA. :p
