Default Regretting getting auto!!

Yeah.. thought automatic was gonna be great coming from a manual car but holy cr*p i am so bored while driving i want to rip my eyes out.. even though in traffic i am very happy now but still now i would rather have to go through that traffic and have more control over my car now.. blah... since it's automatic i don't even want to mod this car. Feels kinda embarassing now to be driving an auto z.... but dang what can i do.. tranny swap too expensive, sr20 swap kinda stupid.. rb swap insane... lolz

I love my auto

If I get THAT bored, I'll throw it in manumatic mode..good enough for me.

Actually, auto is pretty good from what I hear. At least you don't have to deal with that notchy stick shifter . On the other hand, installing a short throw might increase the fun factor on the manual...

I can't drive automatic cars. Personally, they bug me. With a sports car, no question, but in the end, just be happy with what you have, and if it grinds on you too much, switch before you get too attached to the car.

Personally If I were to get a decent priced auto sports car Nissan would be my only choice. They're trannies are bullet proof! I had a '93 nissan 240sx and that tranny went though hell and never had a single problem. And I hear good things with the auto equipped Z's. Almost no performance loss with an auto Z.

Be happy with your decision. I live in so cali and the traffic on the 405 is murder. I would gladly take a manumatic that still has a fairly decent degree of control over pumping my clutch in and out for an hour and a half. Now If I could afford to have two cars...that would be an entirely different story.

Sorry to hear you're disappointed with the 5AT. Preferences differ, but I've had a blast installing the modifications on mine.

The grass always looks greener on the other side bro... I've got the 6MT, and there are times when I wish it was an auto... like when I've got a hottie sitting next to me and I'd rather use my right hand for playing with bewbies instead of shifting.

I think it depends on where you live. I drove my z to san francisco and I was soo wishing for an 5AT. But only for the 5 days I was there. Needless to say I didn't drive much while I was there. Those hills were a little too much for me. I had visions of my z taking a backwards roll.

I live in SF and wouldn't even consider driving an AT. I guess if you are not a confident driver of Manuals then you have to make compromises, but compromises suck.

/shrug I wouldn't trade my AT for a manual.

I *can* drive a manual pretty well but I feel very little amount of loss with the Z Manumatic.

I'll ask my Q here since all the auto owners have flocked to this thread,...........any of you experience a single KNOCK when shifting from 2nd to 3rd under 1/2 to WOT..more noticeable when shifting between 3000-6000rpm's...doesnt happen in Auto mode, what gives?

Trading your ride in is the only cost effective option there.... if it's worth it to you to lose some on the trade-in, go for it. Only you know how badly you want the MT.... and money won't be the most prevalent factor when the desire is strong enough

I don't have that.

But the ratio diff between 3rd and 2nd gear is pretty big(go out and try to engine brake with the auto, its fine going 5th to 4th, 4th to 3rd but it bucks crazy 3rd to 2nd), could be that.

If you car is still fairly new, see if your dealer will swap your AT for the MT. I think some dealers may do it for a small fee. Drive which ever version makes you more happy. If you can't do a swap just enjoy your Z. Both versions perform equally.

The grass is always greener on the other side. I like the 5AT but there are a couple of times I think having a full manual would have been fun. I was going to get the 6MT and not even consider the 5AT. I'm glad the dealer had me try the 5AT before I made my purchase and I have no regrets.

You're right, the gap between 2nd and 3rd is HUGE...If Im at Light throttle or shift Past 6000, it doesnt make the knock sound, and Ive tried to get it to make the sound in Auto mode, but it won't...My theory is, it only does it at 1/2 to full throttle, and mostly noticeable at 3000 rpms, ...If @ full throttle and you shifted @ 3000, the engine (or tranny) isnt expecting (sorry) or shouldnt be shifted yet given the amount of acceleration..Well I may be talking out of my ***, just a thought,.
