I had a dodge colt turbo that turn heads when I was in high school 14 yrs ago lol. Serious tho the Neon SRT would be my choice if it was out back then and not the 350Z since it just cost so much to modify the Z and most of the gain are pathetic compare to the other cars that spend less money for more power.

unfotunetly if they did that it would have to spend tons of money on new machinery and it would up the price, and its price/performance is the best thing it has going for it.

quaife lsd's for 04 models stock. they have equal length axles so when they launch, the wheel spin is reduced.
yeah i'd get one if i had only 20k.
back when i was in high school in 99-00, a 20k sport compact car ran 15's at best. i would have killed for this car =0)

also if you want FAST cheap transportation which will kick almost every car butt out there .... BUY A SPORTBIKE!
Its funny how many people with the fixed hondas, wrx's, or integras try to race me on my bike.

Arghhh I stopped reading at page two but here are my two bits to add.
One.. "It's just a dodge"... yeah? Well people say it is "Just a Nissan". And is pisses me off! Think if the GT-R came out as a Nissan instead of an Infinity.. and even when it does. "It's just a..." (Slap)
And my only experience with a SRT-4 was at like 2:30 AM I was on my way home with my buddy on PGA Blvd going under I-95. I live by old foagies so zero cars on road and it is a 4 lane one way bridge. SRT pulls up and has his windows down and is like "Hey bro I really like your car!" I smiled thanked him, had some idle chatter asked if he was going to work on it. He smiled said hell yeah you... I just give a big goofy smile. Anyhow light goes, we gun it. I beat him out of the hole and it was up hill so I think my torque really gave me an edge. Think the kid was just learning stick. Got to the next light, nice talking to you, good luck with the modding.. Turn left... the end.

A car like the S2K, or even E46 M3, now those are high strung, "tweaked" motors, great ones though...
Not sure if someone else already said this, didnt bother reading page three, sorry if repost.

Oh and I agree with what most say, if I was looking to buy a car for 20k, the SRT-4 would be it. That is, if I must buy new, but even considering used cars, it would be high on the list.

I don't know, front wheel drive, torque steer, turbo lag... doesn't sound very driveable. And the 0-60 and 1.4 mile times seem just behind the Z. I imagine the Z would tear it up on the track.
But for the extra 7k the Z seems like a much better car overall.
If I only had 20k to spend on a sports car, I would either buy used, or not buy a sports car. I can't imagine what corners had to be cut to fit a turbo, etc into that budget.

The SRT-4 cost abour 5-6k more then the normal neon right?
All body parts probably didnt cost that much extra because in turn they are not using the normal neon parts, just replacement. Same with most of everything else. Most of that money probably just went into the motor, where parts were added and not replaced.
BTW, if you look under the hood, that pea shooter of a turbo is so tiny, there is not much lag.
Some Coilovers/Swaybars, ect will help handling, and the car being well inder 3k pounds helps. The 04 models come with an LSD as the 03 did not.
Some better wheels and the right drop make the car not TOOO bad looking, at least, for only 20k and that much power it isnt to bad looking.
When I was shopping for the Z I decided to just go take a look at the SRT-4. I was offered a brand new one for $18,500 OUT THE DOOR. Of course, I didnt bite. Although, being my age, I probably should have, and saved some money.
So in my case, almost a $10,000 difference, you have to give the thing some credit for that.

True, I suppose it may be why I dont buy a Vette. Cant afford one, but I want to go fast.
It is s shame the Neon is so ugly though, I wouldnt mind saving 9 grand or so.

My friend owned me in his SRT-4. I was a little upset but then I started thinking about it and you just can't out run ugly. The SRT-4 is still a Neon and doesn't pick up half the chicks my Z does.
