Surprised by a Neon!!!!!
So there I was, passively cruising down the road, when a Dodge Neon SRT-4 fills my rear-view mirror. Having read the magazines, I was aware that the boosted neon is considerably quick, so I quickly down shifted into 3rd to get some revs in case he tried to zip past. Sure enough, when the road turned into two lanes, he shot around. Unfortunately, I had severely underestimated the Dodge. Despite being in third gear at about 4000 RPM's, I couldn't seem to close up the gap he had created when he passed me. Even worse, I didn't get a chance to redeem myself at the next stoplight, because he ducked into the turn lane (coward). So if anyone has a story about beating a Neon SRT-4 I would like to hear it so that I can live vicariously through you.

yeah.. those thingies are quick and easly modified to make quicker with a boost controller...
plus its fwd... less drive train loss...
around the same price / not in the same performance class / certainly not as good looking as a z...

You have to give those things credit man, for the money they are whicked fast. I know all this has been said before but damn, there is like no competition for that same price. Eventually though, some manufacturer is going to think of something, can't wait for that day.

I saw my first one last Sunday. He raced up on my a$$ and then he did a quick pass on the right move, cut in front of me and then he ran a yellow light. I stopped for the red and by the time it was go for me I had lost sight of him. The driver looked like a 19 year and his driving reflected that. This was all on city streets but about a half hour later I got on the freeway and who comes racing up my a$$ again but the same Neon. He pulls the same maneuvers and zooms off. I was tempted to try and catch up to him and give him a run but the traffic was pretty heavy and if I stooped to that kind of driving on public roads I would have demeaned myself.
Someday the time and place will be right for a head to head face off. I hope that day doesn't come until I have my TT installed.

gotta respect those cars. like pj550v12 said, for the money, they cannot be beat.
if my budget was in that price range, that car would be very high on my list.

Holy crap, 12 posts into this thread and no one has said "Yea, but it's a Neon".
I think the SRT-4 is a great car. Especially for the money. I even think it looks cool.
It's surprising (and disappointing) that more car companies don't build cars to compete with it.
