Tall people with Z's.....

I am 6'1 and 220lbs and i was taking some interst in the 350z coupe..Are they comfortable for people my size or are they for smaller people??

Amnbex Aug 2, 2004 07:10 AM

Much more comfortable for bigger/taller guys than cars like S2Ks or Z4s.

350zSpeedRacer Aug 2, 2004 07:18 AM

My husband's 6'2" and about 215 lbs--he fits in the Z, but knows I look better in it. lol

LBSOHK Aug 2, 2004 08:11 AM

my buddy often drives my Z , at 6'3 and 220lbs he fits and feels good in it...

dont worry you should have plenty of space for yourself ..
im 6' 200 and have plenty of room..

asatyss Aug 2, 2004 08:12 AM

I am 6'4", 250 lbs and I fit fine. You will fit just fine. Go to a dealership and sit in one if you aren't sure. Of course, once you sit in one, it will be much harder to resist buying...

The Brickyard Rat Aug 2, 2004 08:15 AM

6' 2" & 220 lbs. I fit easily with a couple inches of headroom to spare.

Not a problem

Poison123 Aug 2, 2004 08:20 AM

Yup, 6'3 about 220 and i love the fit of this car. My torso is a little longer than most but I still have about 1inch of clearance on my head when sitting straight up, and fit just fine with the seat all the way back and laying against it for a long drive :)

I'm a big guy at 6'3 275 and i fit in my z no problem. My knees angle up toward the dash a little, but its not nearly as bad as other cars i've driven.

I'm 6' 4" 230 lbs find the z comfortable. Tried to get into a Crossfire the other day, what a joke!

rjpaterson Aug 2, 2004 08:59 AM

I'm 6' and about 180 and have no complaints about fit

zectasy Aug 2, 2004 09:09 AM

i am 6'4 and 230lbs and i fit great in the Z...most comfy car for taller people...my friend with a m3 sat in it and didnt like it beause hes short so it feels weirder for smaller/shorter people...i love it though

I'm one of those short people.. i'm only 5'5" and 140lbs and it is weird when you first start driving it but you get used to it.

6' 1" and 190 and it's perfect. It doesn't feel like you're getting into it as much as putting it on. Very comfortable. :D

Now if only I could make it go faster.... ;)

The biggest surprise to me when i got the Brick & spent time driving is how the whole ergonomics thing between me & the Zzz was almost perfect; feel like the Zzzz fits me like a comfortible glove.

A lack of a telescoping steering wheel is the only ding against perfection.

Nforce1 Aug 2, 2004 11:13 AM

Im 6'1 & 130 ... I fit fine.. Its a pretty low car to get into though... I used to think my sisters mustang was low, but now when im moving cars and i go from my z to the stang, i can get into the stang easy

shaun_walsh Aug 2, 2004 11:21 AM

Width vs. Length

I am only 5'8" but I wieght 350 and have plenty of room. ;)

6'2, 175, long legs. No problem at all.
I have about 2 inches of headroom to spare and plenty of leg room.

I've driven S2000s before and they are VERY cramped compared to the Z. I can do road trips in the Z no problem, but the S2k would drive me crazy after a few hours.

HyperSprite Aug 2, 2004 01:25 PM

I am 6' 2" - 190 (long legs) and found it's ok.
Headroom is no problem whatsoever, I have issues with the leg room.

Those knee pad things, what are they for, my shins? For the most part my problem is with the clutch disengagement and long pedal travel, I could really use half the throw and twice the effort. So on long trips I am fine, in high traffic, it's annoying. Telescoping wheel would be nice too, but this is a sports car so I am willing to make some concessions.

I'll give you a run-down of my experiences, similar to others in this forum, I'm 6'3"-6'4" and about 170lbs (on the thin side). My wife is about 5'3".

LEG ROOM

If you're under 5'11" you get plenty thereof, and clutch is perfectly positioned for people between 5'5" and 5'10" IMHO -- so, majority will enjoy it.

If you're over 6' and, like me, have 6'7" arm span and long legs to boot, its a bit cramped down there. If you got shoe size above 12, further cramping ensues :). For tall people, clutch is too close, and should be adjusted lower. I adjusted mine so it is same level with brake pedal. It engages 2" off the floor and is fully engaged at brake pedal level. Adjusting it is pretty easy, google is your friend, or PM me maybe I still have the article on that...

SHOULDER ROOM

My shoulders span almost 2 feet. I got no problems whatsoever, with exception that the drink holder drinks will be bumping your elbows as you shift. I rarely use the drink holder, and if I do, drink sits in passenger holder :).

HEAD ROOM

If you were 6'7" I think you'd still have room to spare above. I sit quite low, though, my seat is all the way down. Pros for tall people here: those high window lines ain't so high no more :)! If you adjust your seat correctly (so, when stretching your arm, your wrist falls over steering wheel), you can comfortably lean your arm over to the side. Most people cannot do this, as Z has high beltline.

BOTTOM LINE:

If someone takes a picture of you in the Z, you'll look as though you're at least half a foot shorter :) (well, that's with seat all the way down). That's how much space there is.

Per what linxjb said, try sitting in Crossfire. I wanted to test drive it, but couldn't fit. For that matter, try the Stang. Seat won't go back far enough, because of those rear seats. Even a Vette felt more cramped to me (although that's subjective, I just couldn't see well from it). You'll probably fit in S2K if you're thinner like me, but shoulder room and headroom -- only with top down. On the other hand, an RX-8 will provide even more space than the Z (that's how it felt to me). How they do it? I don't know...

Lastly, be happy you're not 6'7"-6'9", like few of my friends. Ouch! They are really limited in what they can drive. Especially with sports cars.
