Won't it be cool to have your Z 20 yrs. from now?

When I bought the Z, I made the choice to keep it forever. Sure, other cars will replace it as daily drivers but I want to keep it as long as I can. The 350Z will very likely become a classic and I like the idea of owning something that will be recognized as "cool" to later generations. In 20-30 years, it will be nice to have car enthusiasts appreciate your "old" 350...giving it the same respect that we give well-taken care of classics now. Does anyone feel this way or is your 350 more of a temporary fix?

i seriously wish i could keep my Z for 20 years and keep it in great condition. it will surley be a classic car. thats for sure. and a nice car to show the grandkids one day. but unfortunatley it is my daily driver, and at the rate i'm going now at 25,000 a year, it will have 500,000 miles on it. and if any engine can do 500,000 it will be the VQ. lets hope.

Guy in our club has his original 240 that he bought in Okinawa - believe 1974? Not a daily driver but makes all of the club events, and it still looks sweet. and thats more like 30 years!

That's awesome. My dad came within inches of buying a '74 before I was born. He still has the brochure! Would've been so cool for him to still have it and me have my 350. Oh well...:p

Gonna be hard to find gas for it 20 years from now ;) I hope to still have my Z then, but it'll probably have a flux capacitor and a garbage disposal by then

You mean after they outlaw internal combustion engines? :icon18:

i wish i could keep my Z forever. if it wasnt my daily driver, and i could afford other cars, i would keep it garaged and in mint condition, but keep modifying it. it would be so badass in 20-30 yrs.

At 62, it is less than a certainty I will be driving my Brick in 20 years but, yes, my thought is to keep it in the clan.

Worst case is a grandson/daughter gets a really cool, well cared for old car.

Wonder if Nissan thought to incorporate a provision for adding a "flux capacitor" in future years to the VQ35 engine!!.... LOL!

The Brickyard Rat Sep 28, 2004 02:54 PM

.....and if the Flux Capacitor is added, hell, I'll just fire up the Brick to 88 MPH and go back to 1960s Detroit & be the old dude with coolest car in Motorcity!!

There were a couple babes I wish I had "scored" with; maybe the
Brick would do the trick!!

:D

I would LOVE to have my Z in 20yrs...but at the same time, I'd hate myself for having spent almost $40k in tires given an average of 20k/yr. Plus I'd probably have hearing damage from the feathering.

My dad has kept his 1982 280zx for 20 years. =) He got it in college. I'm hoping to get a 350Z and do the same. The 280zx has about 250,000 but it doesn't run so smooth right now. We're going to fix it back to new later when we have time.

I missed out the first time the Z came out , way back when they first came out, but NO WAY I was going to miss out the second time, I plan on keeping My Z forever, I don`t drive in the Winter and I take good care of it always garaged, though I drive some what on the agressive side most of the time, I know this car can take it.. Yes without a doubt the 350Z will be a Classic.
LOVE this car!!.
I know i will have other cars between now and then but My Z will not leave , will remain for ever.

lets be realistic, ill put my z into a wall long before that ever happens.

My dad has owned 8 Z cars throughout his lifetime. Every model with the exception of the 300 and the 350. Some he loved, some he hated (mid 80's Z cars were kinda watered down). I remember riding in the back of those cars when I was a kid and hitting my head on the rear window like crazy, but I thought they were the coolest cars ever. I even tried my best Andretti impression in a black 240 and knocked it in to neutral and it rolled backwards partway down a hill with the door open and it caught on a bush and bent it backwards. Kind of a blessing though, kept me from rolling all the way down the hill and totalling the car. Z's are known for being ahead of their time in styling and performance/value and the 350Z is no exception. No doubt it will be a collector in the future...if we can figure out a way to fuel it.

ihatethatbobbarker Sep 28, 2004 09:24 PM

let me guess, the non turbo 280zx was his least favourite?

pacificwindsurf Sep 29, 2004 08:13 AM

That's entirely feasible. I've had my Nissan pick-up for 11 years now and it runs great with no problems. I'd like to keep my Z for 20 + years and perhaps my future kids can drive it when learn to drive.

Re: Have your 350Z 20 years form now?

Absolutely! That way, my silver 350 can join my silver 240Z as my classic weekenders! My 240Z has 208,000 miles on the odometer since I bought it new in Canada in 1972! Premium leaded gas is gone, but it keeps running. I don't see why the 350 won't join the 240 in 2024!

ihatethatbobbarker Sep 29, 2004 10:24 AM

your car is 10 years older then me
