I GOT MY Z but something doesn't seem right .. -_-
 

So I picked up my Z today!! well its past 12 so YESTERDAY .. anyhow .. my z is already making weird noises! I drove around pointlessly for hours and have about 110 miles on it already .. came with about 24 miles on it off the lot .. its an 05 .. built in 09-04 .. is it normal for the shiftknob to vibrate and when I'm going into 1st and 2nd gear ... I can hear slight rattling noises .. is this normal? And when I got home and turned off the car .. I heard rattling noises coming from under the car .. !!! any input on any of this? Thanks guys!! I STILL DONT BELIEVE ITS IN MY GARAGE!!! AHHHHH

Guess the '05's have the tranny problem too... :(

heat expansion form your exhuast, new parts. Sports cars are going to vibrate in through to the shifter. If you dont want it turn it back in for a civic.

All shiftknob on the Z will vibrate. So did my last Nissan (a pathfinder).. just the way the tranny is designed (or lack there of)

When I first brought mine home it did some wierd things like that....but after a few 100 miles, everything seemed to be smoother and no more wierd noises. Just needs to be broke in a little. Nothing to worry about.

they all do that, not really a big deal, Nissan will tell you "it is supposed to do that cause it is a sports car.." But that is crap. The tranny just sucks.

The -Z-'s shifter goes straight into the transmission.

The engine and transmission are mounted on rubber pads to insulate their movements and vibration from the rest of the car.

If the engine and transmission was not insulated from the rest of the car, it would ALL vibrate kind of like a lawnmower does. It would be VERY annoying after a while.

Some cars do have their shifters mounted separately from the transmission. They connect to the transmission with linkage (metal rods). These type of shifters do not vibrate as much, but they do not provide the driver as much efficiency. They can bind, wear, and miss a gear easier.

By mounting the shifter into the transmission, Nissan has given you a more "sporty" feel and performance.

As for the noises after you turn the car off.....those are merely the result of hot metal (probably the exhaust system) cooling. As metal heats up and cools, it will grow and shrink. It is normal.

You will notice that your car, when idling, rattles when the clutch is not engaged. You will also notice this noise when turning the car off. So if it really bothers you that much, just push in the clutch while turning the car off.

I dont think you should be able to hear the shifter vibrating...

Mine mildly vibrates, but unless you're hanging on to the shifter the whole time, you wouldnt notice....

ah, i remember when my Z was new. Driving around for no reason at all and loving it. Wait a minute.... i still do that!:D
