I think paddles on the column like ferrari does it, is a better solution. True, you should downshift prior to a turn, but during a turn when you need to countersteer or make quick hand movements, you can lose track of the paddles. In that sense, it's nice to have the paddles on the column so you always know where they are.

If the next Z has a dsg, then forget about the stick shift.

This was really helpful for me. As for which I would get if I had the option I'm not sure. I don't mind driving stick in traffic, and while I would like to try true paddle shifters, I'm afraid it would get old after time.

To me, paddle shifter is less important. You can have a paddles shifter with many cars with a traditional automatic transmission. What is important is an automatic with clutch (DSG, sequential manual, whatever). My guess is that this won't come out with the new Z during the first year. Maybe, 2nd or 3rd year.

It's interesting that you say that it would come later seeing as Nissan couldn't get their manual for the GTR out first due to emissions problems.

Hmmm, I was not closely following the development of GT-R since it is out of my price range anyway. What problem are they having with the manual trans? Just to be clear, I was saying that my prediction was twin clutch option for Z (not GT-R) would be available later, not in the first year of the new Z. Simply because I was thinking it would not make the date.
