Anyone with factory Navi? How's it do in direct sunlight?
So i'm thinking of going to an aftermarket Kenwood Navi system to install in the upper (stock nav location) cubby. My only concern is if its even going to be bright enough... Any of you with aftermarket nav in the stock location or factory nav have any problems in direct sunlight? Have any pics?

Factory nav is fine.

Yeah, stock is fine. It can wash out and become a little bit hard to read if it's set to dark/your lights are on, but it's not a big deal.
|
It's just fine. There is a button for D/N day or night. Day is white back light and night is dark back light.

Factory Nav is fine in direct sunlight, but I also installed a Kenwood DD 8812 with nav into a new Escape Hybrid with Sunroof. With sun coming in from the suroof the Kenwood does probably better than the factory Nav in the Z.

i have no idea but i have a stock navi if anyone knows of anyone that needs one. and let me know that would be wonderful.
|
how much?

how much do you want for your stock nav?
|
Is your stock nav broken? Otherwise from what i've researched on this forum its a huge pain in the ass to install a stock nav system in a Z that didn't come with it. I'd recommend going aftermarket... they have nicer interfaces anyway really and most are ROM based rather than DVD based, which is a lot faster when moving around the map manually.
Not trying to discourage you or piss off the seller but just do a search on the subject and you'll see why. Thanks for the responses guys! I'll be getting Navi for sure when I can afford it. |
In my experience, it is hard to read the navigation details in direct sunlight.

During the day, it's fine. If the sun is directly behind you shining on the on the display, it's hard to read. Just follow the voice prompts and if needed, just just your hand to shade the display for a quick look.

Well I ended up buying a Garmin Nuvi 5000 aftermarket unit and just slotted it in the stock spot. Works great but its impossible to read with sunlight directly on it from behind. Otherwise it does fine as stated....
Thanks for the replies though! Here's pics for the hell of it: http://shared.megabytemike.com/Z_Oth...b_IMG_4806.JPG http://shared.megabytemike.com/Z_Oth...b_IMG_4813.JPG http://shared.megabytemike.com/Z_Oth...b_IMG_4819.JPG |

I have an 07 factory navi. I don't have a cover over it. Honestly its a little too bright. Direct sunlight is no problem. You can turn up or down the brightness. During the day is no problem, but at night if your in the city its fine, but at night on the highway, if you are using the navi it can be a little bright, if you aren't using the navi its also fine.
