z roadster or svt cobra
so my mind is set pretty much on getting a roadster this feb. hopefully ill still be able to get one...then i saw a svt cobra and i did a little research on them...38g's for 390 hp out of a supercharged v8...thats some pretty high numbers for 38000. Any opinions?
It's still a mustang. I shouldn't really knock them since I own one of them. But, there is nothing worst than having a really fast car that handles like a tank going through the twisties. The Z is a much better handling car and is still plenty fast enough to put you in jail. I guess you could go a few more thousand and get a Z06 if you want speed and decent control.
If you hurry the Cobras are selling for quite a bit less than that now, for a while they even had a $2500 rebate!
With a lil money you can get a decent suspension (not great) out of the Cobra and still have 390 HP (underrated)

I just went through the same decision process while contemplating my imepnding Z roadster.
The Mustang frame is ancient and the handling shows it. In the 1/4 mile it is awesome, but throw it some twisties with bumps (ie.. every road in Connecticut) and the Mustang will lose it's composure LONG before the Z. I think the reason is that the Mustang carries a lot more unsprung weight but I am not sure.
I am not flaming the mustang. It depends on what you want. If you want to drag race people at lights the mustang is a serious bargain. If you want to also run twisty roads and handle bumps the Z may be better for you. I think the Z is a better "do everything" car.
I thought about it and now I am waiting for my Z roadster in October. 10 years ago I would have chosen the Mustang because I was more in to drag racing.

i just dont wanna be let down by the z's power. Ive test driven some and i was very pleased with the handling and speed, but i dont know if i will be when its finally mine. Ive driven my freinds 300zx and its a blast. I just hope ill be happy with the 350 ..
I also checked out the Mustang before I bought my Z. I love the raw power of the car. But thought the interior looked kind of cheap. There is no doubt the Mustang has the power but my Z goes through the S curves without even slowing down. Besides, there are hundreds of Mustangs in town, but there is only one ZR and it mine.

I'm torn between the 2 myself. I'm been boning up on the 2005 Mustang that's coming up next fall . Have you seen it? The will start taking orders on it in April.
The look is really retro- Looks mostly like the 67-68 Stang.
The V8 coupe (which will be rated at around 310 HP) should base price at around 25K, and the 'vert should be around 29K
No bad at all.
sighh... Decisions, decisions...

I don't see how you can be stuck between two absolutely different cars.
I think this decision depends on if you want to spend your money on a fast engine with a dated body, or a full featured sports car.
If drag racing is all that really matters to you, why not just buy a LS1 fbody for 10k and spend $20k in mods?
