What's too STIFF?

Looking to get ready to install my Tein Basic coilovers, and Ichiba Sway bars on my Roadster...
I hear that I will feel a sizable difference but I know the roadsters need a little flex here and there..

Whill these things cause issues in the long run?

Just rattle your teeth to and from work. But certainly worth bragging rights.

ichiba makes sway bars?

Guilty1s Mar 10, 2011 07:59 AM

I say roadsters need a more stiffening added as they dont have a freaking roof to do so.

My roadsters stiff as ****! Driving over a small crack in the road feels like I got rear ended. A big crack feels like I blew a tire.

I think its because of the stretched eagle gt's. I am also lowered on the eibach prokit, but I didn't notice much difference between stock suspension and the lowering springs.

Warning - NSFW - but I did manage to keep it fairly clean.

I'll be here all week, folks!

That's so nice of you to throw an old lady a bone.

But I'll tell you something... based on the last time I was in there, you're going to feel like an ant walking across the 50 yard line at the new Cowboys stadium. But then again, it's been 37 years now since I popped out, so things could be different?:dunno:

And Q: is for question, A: is for answer. That is why there was no B:

There is a reason why the convertible weighs several hundred pounds more vs. the coupe. The engineers reinforce the body structure because it does not have a hard roof. Also, don't waste your money on sway bars, the OEM SBs are sufficient....unless you want to get adjustable type SBs.

if you feel the car is too stiff, then its too stiff. if you feel the car moves too much during turns etc, then it's not stiff enough.

A car that is to stiff will also move around in a corner as the tires keep losing traction.

OK Guys. Now for my final testamonial..

Coilovers installed along with the "Hotchicks" sway bars and my front and rear SPC camber kits. I went with the 235/30/20 in the front and the 285/30/20 rear.. Had to roll the rear fenders for that perfect tuck.

The car is lowered to the perfect height and sway bars at the stiffest setting.

I LOVE IT. The basic coilovers are stiffer than stock but not harsh on the bumps at all.. The perfect blend for aggressive and daily driving.

Last weekend a buddy of mine and his F348 went for a brisk drive behind some curvey back roads on US 27 and he wasn't able to shake me.. I now love my car that much more and keep telling people forget the exotic car dream and get a Z and Just mod it to your liking and drive the HELL out of it everyday.

Thanks for all the advise guys.

I wsh I could download pics from my phone. :-(

update...

Still handles like a champ.. Real aggressive looking on the road.

bmccann101 Jul 12, 2011 03:38 PM

too stiff is when your cars suspension cannot properly keep the tires in contact with the ground during a handling event. A formula car can be REAL stiff... what "bumps" does it "go over" aside from the course edges?

But a passenger car needs the proper spring rate and rebound matched with the weight of the car and the driving characteristics its meant for. SO if you can adjust spring rate, can adjust rebound, then your golden.

Also.. i will have a picture of what is truly too stiff if youll all give me just a few minutes to pre fap. . bahaha.
i love seeing "new threads" only to find ive been throwing F bombs all over it for like 4 months already. :)

jk man, all in good fun.
