Convertible top wont move at all

After having my top replaced the convertible top wont move at all is their any fuse or relays that control the tops function?

It was working before and now it just doesn't move or make a sound any help would be greatly appreciated.

SparkleCityHop 08-26-2011 06:16 PM

Was any other work done or anything else changed? Seats, windows, window motors, etc.

dudegetalife 08-26-2011 07:17 PM

no just soft top material was being replaced tech said that it could be a switch it was done at an upholstery shop but he said it moved up and down and after 2 times it just didn't wanna move at all.

Its an upholstery shop so they dont do any car repair work at all and i've never had this problem at all.

Does our car have a fuse or relay for the top?

Thanks for such a helpful post.:icon22:

But back to the business at hand...

Do the windows come down and does the passenger seat move when you attempt to operate the top, or does nothing at all happen?

Since it sounds like you're not a new owner - I'm already assuming that you have key in the ignition, car is stopped, foot is on brake, and you're holding down the button through the whole process.

dudegetalife 08-27-2011 06:35 PM

ya 5th year owning first major problem do everything and hit open switch no movement whatsoever windows dont even move.

dudegetalife 08-27-2011 06:45 PM

dudegetalife 08-27-2011 06:50 PM

5th. Bow couldn't b causing this could it?

Still on same step leaving car in garage for night torn apart any help greatly appreciated

If your windows don't even come down, it sounds more like a fuse issue or problem with the main control unit itself. In my experience, when there is a problem with a component in the top mechanism or a sensor, everything else works as expected until it gets to the step that it needs to interact with the broken item.

Since operating the switch normally rolls down the windows first and leans the passenger seat forward, I would expect that it is either the control box for the entire system or a fuse. the control box for the system can be accessed by taking off the interior panels behind your seat. it is a plastic box that is mounted to the top of the metal and sits above the driver side cubby hole area.

I'm not sure exactly which fuse covers this mechanism, but I would check all fuses in the driver floorboard and under the hood near the battery.

switch is good line to switche is good page 40 step 4 connector circuit i can't get a continuity check on.

Also for future reference nissan ****ed up this service manual wire locations are all misplaced

dudegetalife 08-28-2011 08:48 AM

99% sure its the entire computer for the soft top i'm gonna take it to nissan tuesday to verify my findings.

SparkleCityHop 08-28-2011 01:55 PM

Man, that bites. Hopefully that will fix the issue, but I'm sure the stealership isn't going to give that computer away unless you pay until it hurts. :(

dudegetalife 08-28-2011 08:05 PM

ya i'm gonna bring some lube along as well cuz its gonna hurt.

Rated Z 09-02-2011 10:18 AM

Lube Job

Pretty much having the same issue. Browsed my copies of the service manuals and have to admit I'm curious to see what was the outcome after bringing your car in.

dudegetalife 09-06-2011 09:02 AM

wrecked the z on the passenger side insurance covering everything but wont be ready for a week or so i'll post outcome.

Resmarted 09-27-2011 10:43 PM

ouch @ last post.

if it helps there's some kind of electrical sensor box thingy (been a while since I've seen it) under the leather cover on the driver side (I think it's on the driver side). That's under the taneau cover (the thing that flips up to store your top).

dudegetalife 10-15-2011 07:36 AM

Update:

Insurance wouldn't cover top since it was preexisting condition.

Nissan wants 8k in parts before they start work on it.

Got second opinion besides nissan saying top was installed improperly

Gonna more than likely go to court with upholstery shop.

Still dont know issue.
