Default Clips for convertible top struts

When I had to raise my convertible top manually, I was supposed to unclip the struts that raise the rear of the top so that the tonneau cover can lift up. I did that but now I do not know where the clips areand the struts come off the ball joints without the clips. Anyone know the part number for that or if I am able to get those clips.

Pic of strut removed:

Pic of strut where is attaches to top:

Please help. Thanks guys.

I called the local dealer and it would be over $2,000 to buy the entire assembly in order to get those little tiny clips. At least he asked me if I was sitting down before he told me how much it was

what if you went to autozone, got some cheap hatch struts... they have the same kind of clip... or wondering if these will work

Thats a good idea and I did think about it. The problem is that I forgot what they looked like. If someone can snap a pic of the end of the arm as installed on the car and also remove the clip and take a pic of it, that would be great.

Because ZR owners are brothers. My 06 strut is slightly different. This is pass side.

Pic of this oddball clip

As you can see, it expands slightly to allow the ball to pass through and captures it

Yes, I miked it.
.218" wide, .624" across installed. Did not get the thickness, but you could easily make one from normal spring sreel. I'd just steal a cable guide off the lawnmower or bike and reduce it.
Hope this helps!

jhc: Thank you very much for that great info.

I replaced the hood shocks on my 05 Maxima. I used two of the old clips which kind of worked. Only one side of the clip goes into the socket and under the ball part but it seems to hold for the moment. Using jhc's great pics and info, I may try to make the part out of spring steel like he suggests.
