I'm also in the area and trying to find someone to help out with this. I don't trust a dealership to help me and would prefer to see a professional. Please let me know if you find anyone credible!

they don't do this sort of thing; they sub it out to DTS Interiors (972) 423-7300 1309 Summit Ave Plano, TX so i called up there and explained the problem. he is very familiar with 350Z tops, their problems, and different fixes. he says it is likely the elastic, and to bring it by and he will show me a work around until he can fix me it. |
Great to hear! Thanks for the contact. I just had my top replaced a few months ago because holes started appearing probably caused by the elastic band. They replaced the top but there is a crease in it for some reason and I want to see if I can have it fixed. Also after I got it replaced the top still doesn't go down. I think it's something wrong with the motor but would prefer to have a specialist look at it and be the judge before I attempt to do anything else. I'm not very mechanically savvy.

I visited DTS interiors this morning. He showed me right away why my top was not closing; all i had to do was push back on one of the cross members while it was closing and it dropped right in. then he told me that my top (probably original to the car) was starting to crack and to just live with it until it started leaking, then get a new top. did not even consider letting me have him replace the elastic, which is the problem.
for those who want to know, the new cloth stayfast top (he really does not recommend the vinyl) is about $1200 or so, plus about $800 for him to install it. so i guess in the next few years i'll put in that new top. until then i'll just help the top when i close it. |
I did mine in my garage for $675 and 11 hours (no helper). Stay Fast Canvas from TopsOnline.com for $650 delivered and a rivet gun. PITA but saved a ton. No wind or water problems. I highly recommend this company.
EDIT- Comes with complete instructions also. |

Asking three times without telling anyone what diagnostics you’ve already done isn’t going to fix it. And if you’re not going to do any diagnostics, take it to a shop. |
