Popping Sound from 370Z Suspension?
After I backed out of parking spot this morning, I turned the wheel all the way to the right and eased forward. The left front end made a popping noise. It sound as is the ackerman angle wasn't correct and the outside front wheel had to slip in order for the car to move. It was not a pleasant noise.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'll try to duplicate the sound in an empy lot tonight and let you know what I find out. |
oh boy here come the 1st year production problems already.
Was it definitely a popping sound and definitely from around the suspension? The previous model Z's had an axle clicking problem. Happened mostly from a dead stop when you first start getting on the gas and moving again. |

It happens ONLY when I have turned the steering wheel to lock or near lock and I am monving forward slowly. Also it only does it in VERY cold weather. My 2004 Z did the EXACT same thing. I hope this helps. |
i think it's the abs and lsd systems working to find traction before the abs system is tested.
I have the same issue with my 06 and I don't believe it's axle clicking because it doesn't do it after you feel the abs test shortly after startup. |

Take it to the dealer and make sure everything is torqued down to spec. I had this exact issue with my 06 after a suspension install, and it turned out to be a somewhat loose bolt on the control arm.
Have them inspect the control arms. |
I know exactly what you are speaking of and it might just be the brake pads being unstuck from the rotors. I drive Infiniti product all the time and it seems to make the noise often. Just my .02 cents.

But, but, but...
Nissan said this was gonna be the best Z evar.
They said. I read it...it's true? OP get the dealer to confirm what's up or there will be widespread panic! :icon21: |
anybody think this has something to do with the cold weather? I think so.
Doesnt this happen on z33's as well. Settle down guys. |
Relax, it's just Orville Redenbacher's spirit living in your car....:p

It has happened to my 350... with the wheels turned and not turned. Usually when its cold out.
|
That happen to me in my 2004 too.
|
I have a 370 and I have not noticed this so far, but I only have 250 miles on it.
|
tire hitting the wheel well or brake was stickin b/c of the rain?
|
You're not alone, I heard this from others too. Take her back.:dunno:

I appreciate all the responses, but this is certainly nothing to cause panic about. I'm certain it's not axle clicking, brake pads, sticking, or anything to do with the ABS or LSD; I think it's nothing more than the outside tire slipping just a bit when the tires are turned to lock. I haven't compared specs, but the turning radius seems sharper than my 06 350Z, and the tires are bigger all the way round. This could just be a symptom of big fat tires and cold weather. No worries... :)

I've experienced this in my 370Z the past two mornings in a row. Back out of a parking space at the gym with the wheel turned all the way, and as I move forward it makes a strange popping sound. But I also suspect it's the cold. I get up at 3:30am to work out, and these last couple of days it's been really, really cold at that early in the morning. I'm not worried either.

Oh stop complaining and drive the dang car.
|
not sure if this is correct but....
the pop noise when turning tight may be a defective strut.....:dunno:
