There's a link on the 370Z-Tech website that has an inteview with the 370Z designer who states the car will cost between 3,700,000 and 4,700,000 yen. In US dollars that's $37-48K. Do you still love the car? Sorry, I wouldn't pay that kind of money for it.

This is a pretty typical response from car owners when a new model comes out, replacing a beloved model. I don’t think there is a single car forum I have been on, in all of my years on the web where this doesn’t happen. Its just natural.
So here is the process that the 370Z, as all new models will follow from the Enthusiast community;
1) New model is announced, speculation and excitement begins.
2) Small details are leaked, these are picked apart with a fine tooth comb and expectations are laid.
3) First firm details or full disclosure of the new model is made, new owners, hold outs and die-hards reject it off hand, former owners look forward to it as good time to go back to the brand, most split their opinion 50/50, good-bad.
4) New model hits the street, a few show up on the board and people start to get excited, as modifications are made to the new cars, people start to take notice. 60/40, good-bad.
5) New model is out for 6mo-1yr, A large mix of new owners make the old cars seem dated, opinion starts a rapid shift, the old cars sell for less and the new becomes a higher demand item. Option shifts to 80/20m good-bad.
6) Old model seems like ancient history, excitement is gone for the old car, with nostalgia taking over, 95% of owner/potential buyers and forum members prefer the new car and are looking forward to the “next” version of the car.

I can't believe how many here compare the 350 Z and 370 Z strictly on the basis of the looks of the cars.
The fact is has 54 more HP, is wider and shorter plus is reputed to weigh 200 pounds less than my 2003 Z attracts me, so given the performance enhancements to be had, I could not care less about the looks of the car.

Yup don't matter the make or model.. This always happens when a new car debuts.

I'm with you on the performance potential of the 370. Let's face it, 350Z in its stock form leaves a lot to be desired especially in handling.
With the new car's added power, shorter and stiffer chassis, and MOST IMPORTLY lighter weight(I hope what Nissan claims will be true), the 370 ought to be quite a performer at the track.
I'm willing to bet that with some proper tuning(20~30 more hp, great suspension setup, and even more shaved weight), this car will match the laptimes of GT-R at least on shorter race tracks.

That link didn't work for me so I found the embed code:

The 370Z Roadster will most likely be a future upgrade for me!

Interior looks great although I wish that they could have integrated the 3 pods better, they just look sorta out of place (an afterthought) on this one. I actually like the fang headlights on it as well as on the Max, but the rear leaves alot to be desired!

i'd like to see the responses if the roles were reversed and the new design was replaced with the current design.
"oh god the lights?!"
"oh its so heavy"
"bumper turnsignals?!?!"
"waaaaaaaah"

BTW it would be nice to know which model Nissan is using as the basis of the 200lb less comment. The Z's weight fluctuates depending on trim. Would be nice if it was 200lbs lighter than the Base 350z which some have weighed
at less then 3200lbs...That would mean the Base 370z would be less than 3000lbs if the "200lb less" rumor is true....I highly doubt that but just something to think about...

wow, i really like it. I think the headlights would look really nice blacked out. OEM bodyworks? Who cares!!, aftermarket will be taking care of that. The interior is also much better than the current Z
As far as I'm concern, the new gen Z is a winner.

According to an interview with the designer, that will be the price of the high-end model. I thought from reading various forums it was going to be offered starting at $29.5K but that now seems like wishful thinking. The base range is reported to be $37K which is also pretty high.
I think Nissan has just shot themselves in the foot with a high priced, kinda sorta new Z car. This may be the end of the legend. We will see.
