Smile Do It Yourself Fog Lamp (EASY)

Do It Yourself Fog Lamp (EASY)

I have searched the forums and there are many good ways to install the 370 z rear fog lamp. There are also many variations on what you can make the fog lamp do. I tried to find the easiest way, hassle free plus cost effective. There are a couple of harnesses out there with outrageous prices. As for me, I did not feel comfortable splitting wires and removing many panels from the car. What I did was I contacted Cary from Invisicord. Cary came up with an easy solution that works as a plug and play with no special tools required. There are many DIY on how to install to remove and install the fog lamp. The only new thing you will be doing is pulling the rear license plate harness light. Below is the step by step process I used:
1.Remove dummy fog lamp
2.Remove plate that holds dummy lamp
3.Unclip the rear license plate harness
4.Hook Invisicord wires, the colors match so it’s easier and you should make NO MISTAKES
5.Drop down the wire in the insert whole of the license harness to connect fog lamp
6.Hook the fog lamp
7.Tape wire with electrical tape so it won’t hit the exhaust
8.Clip everything back and you’re done

This set up will only work when the head lamps are on, and that’s it, nothing special, no special blinking, just on. If you do want something else or more options, feel free to contact Cary at sales@invisicord.com. This process is something I just tried once and it was easy, fast and cost effective. Cary should be posting this wire setup on his website very soon. Thanks to Tony Nazzal at Riverside Infinity for a great deal on the fog lamp and thanks to Cary at Invisicord for great customer service and creating a great product.
Below are the contacts if you should need anything. Please also feel free to contact me with any questions.

Put rest of wires inside the hole where plate light is clipped in, and then drop it down behind bumper to connect to fog lamp.

Put everything back together, clip the license plate light back to the insert area, tape up loose Invisicord wire to the back of the bumper and you are done. No cutting, no pulling panels, very plain and simple.
I hope this helps. This is just another solution that can help the Z community.
Thanks guys

Pretty cool. This is always ON or just when backing up?

For the 370z, thats what they call it. Not sure why but it does look better than the dummy fog lamp it comes with.

Same here, dont understand why but hey its a cheap and easy mod. There are couple of guys that make the light blink when they reverse, or when you apply the brakes and many other variations, real nice but required to do many wire splitting and removal of many panels on the car. I'm not cool with that, to much work and plus a pain in the but.

Personally I would have just painted it black to make it less noticeable as others have done:

True true, that car looks bad ***, but everyone has their own thing or has an idea on what they want on their rides. Regardless if the car has the rear lamp or not, the car simply looks nice, sometimes just a simple mod is what you need to get that extra pimp on its step. Well if you guys see a stock 370z, the rear dummy light does not look cool at all. That’s my opinion, that’s why I changed it. Simple and easy.

how about calling it a rear marker light/running light..
thats really more what it is.. a fog lights purpose is beaming threw fog so you can drive in it.. and hence on the front of car.. and is not red..

i don't care if nissan or whoever calls this a fog light... its a rear marker light! hehe
its like calling ***, ****.. or calling ****, ***..
i like both but they are not the same

I think they should have never put the "dummy light" there.. it looks silly
a protruding hemorrhoid on the *** of the Z

I'm guessing you guys don't get out much. It IS a fog lamp. When there is thick fog, it sits low so that cars behind you can see you better. They aren't there so you can see behind you.
It is a requirement on European vehicles.
If you've ever seen a Formula 1 race when they drive in the rain, they have a flashing red (fog lamp) on all the cars.
It's basically so you don't have someone climbing up your tailpipes in the rain and fog.

It looks good. And yes, it IS a rear fog lamp to those who aren't familiar with European automotive requirements.

well America says that its a rear maker light :P lol
j/k.. no i was not aware of European requirements... but since i don't drive or live there... no reason to be..
i do understand the concept tho.

in its effectiveness i am a bit of a critic.. i have driven in the fog and from my experience its more of an issue of shining a light threw the fog so that you can see rather than being seen... i have never had an issue seeing other cars lights... in fact other car lights are quite noticeable in the sense that they impair your own vision...
to me its an idea that boarders having a seat belt on a bike.. heh.

pretty sweet!

i met a guy from Brooklyn, NY who did this jdm foglight install to his black 370 and he added a timer so that it would blink rapidly whenever he stepped on the brake.
