Road & Track Article w/ Video

I read this article in R&T this morning. This is the link to the online article - it's got a short video and some photos too. They're quick to point out that Nissan designed this car as a convertible from the outset instead of just chopping the roof off of the coupe like they did with the Z33.

I'd say it looks pretty good - I'm curious to see it in person.

Top up it looks a lot better then the 350 roadster. The lines dont flow at all on the old one.

SnyzzleZ 06-11-2009 09:06 AM

a lot better than the 350zr IMO

Yeah those nasty square roll hoops flow better than the 350ZR? Are you guys blind. Sh!ts disgusting.

That's pretty slick marketing from Nissan since they said the same thing about the 350ZR when it came out...

"Our first clue as to how capable the Roadster is came when traversing bumps and powering through rapid left-right/right-left transitions. Because of our strong familiarity with the coupe's capabilities (due to our long-term testing of one), we were instantly aware of how little the Roadster was flexing on our regular driving loop. In fact, with the optional 18-inch alloy wheels fitted to our test car, the Roadster felt just as confident as our Track model despite the open sky over our heads.

Credit for this goes to the fact that Nissan planned on making a convertible version of the 350Z from Day One of its design phase. To enhance body rigidity, the company installed reinforcing cross bars underneath the passenger and engine compartments. Nissan also strengthened the door openings and floor structure. A tempered glass wind deflector, located between the front seats, helps reduce wind turbulence within the cabin and further adds to the car's placid nature..."

I love the look of the 370ZR (except for the square roll bars) but after all the top problems I had with my 350ZR, I would be very hesitant to buy another Nissan convertible - although this top is fully automated and hydraulic (vs. electric) in nature apparently...

I remember them saying that when I was looking at the 350ZR! Maybe this one is even MORE purpose built. BTW - be safe out there KK!

I may be wrong, but I think Nissan is referring to the aesthetic design of the roadster's body, not the structural rigidity. Looking at the photos, the first thing I noticed was the 370ZR's superior posterior.

I agree that the boxy roll bars are not the most appealing design feature, but I still think this is a far better design than the 350ZR (although I understand that some roadster owners are partial to their cars over the new version, just like some coupe owners and nismo owners).

Stay safe out there KombatKing.

Re. the "boxy roll bars", I've noticed the new BMW Z4 has the same squared off look.
Also, I wonder if these are truly roll bars. Most tracks don't allow the 350ZR on it due to the fact the roll hoops aren't considered roll bars.

Not sure about the "official" take on these. But, from personal experience these are not just cosmetic!
