Basslink install attempt.....it didn't fit?!?!?

I've heard of many people installing the Infinity Basslink in the stock location behind the driver's seat. The attached picture that someone posted here proves the point.

I bought a Basslink online and then took it to Car Toys to have it installed. They tried to fit that sucker in mycar and the opening to the compartment was too small. It wouldn't fit. WTF!?!? :icon25:

Are there different/smaller Basslink models? Do I just have a big one?

Does the compartment opening between years vary in size at all? By trim level? The opening in the pic seems larger than mine. :icon9:

I'm so pissed. They refunded my money but I still own a Basslink and I had to pay for some labor since the guy worked on it for a while.

Any insight?

if you look at that picture above, the metal bracket is removed.

ANY competent installer should have been able to do this. I would go back to them and tell them to install it, but CORRECTLY this time by removing the metal bracket...and I wouldn't be too quick to pay for it either.

my buddy who has 03 performance put basslink in his.
can you show us some pics of yours?

There's no point in showing pics. I had them put everything back to how it was so the metal bracket is back on now. They DID take it off though.

In the pic, do you see the silver peeking out from under the right dynomat? That buldge is fairly pronounced on my car and although the Basslink can fit through the opening, it can't go in straight. You have to angle it down into the compartment and then level it out. It appears that when trying to level it out while pushing it deeper in, the unit catches and can't make it.

I don't get it. :icon33:

On a positive note, my wife is taking the Basslink for her jeep which leaves me free to go with a free-flowing 10" sub which should produce better sound anyway. And I will probably have to get a new HU while I'm at it. :)

which free-air sub were you thinking?

also, were you attemping to install basslink ona bose unit? if so , did you buy the auidolink pd2 or pd4 convertor?

isugoo May 19, 2005 05:18 AM

only free-air sub i found is.. infinity perfect 10.1d.
is that what are you planning to put in?

and anyone in this forum put one of those in stock location?
if yes, how does it sound?

It does fit in there. First, they have to cut off the 2 hanging mounting tabs for the stock sub.
Then it has to be put in upside down. Its kind of tight, but not a real problem getting it in like that. THen its bolted to the top of the compartment. Mine scratched the grill up getting in, but other than that was pretty easy.

interesting. how does it sound? better than stock i presume.. ? which amp did u use?

I was recommended this Eclipse 10" which supposedly fits perfectly in the stock spot. But I think I'm going to hit up a few car stereo places and see what they can do for a reasonable (<$350) price.

I'm confused - it looks like the speaker will fit inside that area - are you saying that it won't fill the grill area? The sound will squirt out from any open area into the passenger compartment. True bass is very omni-directional.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. In theory the basslink will fit the compartment just fine. But on my car, we just can't get it inserted past the opening of the compartment. I don't know what the deal is. :(
