2003 350Z with xm

http://www.leeparts.com/350z.html

Scroll down to the second item. Just to be clear, this will add XM to my 03 350Z? (my z did not come with xm, or the "radio" button). This includes everything except for the antenna?

Thanks

Yes, XM or Sirius. And the antenna IS included. I'm not sure how large it is though. I went with Pioneer's Sirius unit. The antenna is very small and is mouinted on the dash wher it is hardly noticable.

If the antenna is huge (like some I've seen you'll have no choice but to mount it on the roof of your car.

Oh, so this comes with the reciever unit (i think its also called a tuner)? I may have to pick this up. hmmm.... i already have xm in my house, maybe i should go with sirius...?

Which antenna is small but also gets good reception?

I'd investigate. I've seen Sirius antenna's that were huge and others (like mine) that are very small (1.5" x 2.5") so I think it varies. I get very good reception. I do get an occassional cut out due to it's location but they're few & far between.

Mine is mounted on that small flat section on the top/center section of the dask along with my Nav antenna. I don't have the stock HU anymore though. I went with Pioneer. I'm farely certain you can order their antenna seperately.

your talking about the dash near the windshield? Did you try other areas with no success?

I looked at other possible areas. My objective was to not have to put it on the outside of my car. The only other area I considered was on the inside of the rear hatch window near the roof line. The problem then would have been the antenna facing inward instead of toward the sky so I felt reception would have been worse.

It works very well where it is and like I said, is barely noticeable. I'll try to get some pic's up for you in a day or two.

XM Radio

$369.00.. WOW that's expensive. I do not have the Bose system in my Z so there might be something special about it but the only way I know you can get XM through a non-XM ready radio is by purchasing a receiver such as the SkyFiII ($129)or the Roady($99) and some type of a car kit($69). This car kit contains a holder for your receiver, an antenna just over an inch square and an FM modulator(FM modulator is built into the Roady) that connects to the back of the radio. Then you tune to a particular FM station and change XM channels on the receiver.

If you have an XM ready radio then you can install a hidden receiver,($50) use a same small antenna(included w/receiver) and purchase an adapter for your specific radio manufacturer.($75) This allows the XM channels to show up on your radio just like the AM or FM band. The tuner/adapter combo allows the XM radio signal to remain digital from reception to playback thereby improving the sound to near CD quality.

i know that i can just buy a receiver but i have the nav and dont know where to put it. If i can just play it through my bose head unit it would make thigs so much easier. However, the display on the delphi reciever is probably WAY better than what would be on the stock HU.
