"Hacking" The AVH-P6800DVD to Play DVD's While Driving

Alright Guys,

As you know I installed the p6800dvd last week and figured out how to hack it if some of you do not know.

Here is how:

Alright, first take off the dash/ or whatever to get close to the parking break. There will be a olive(light green) wire running to the ebrake. Cut some plastic off from the middle of the wire (keep it attatched to the EBRAKE). Now, get a 2 Prong Toggle switch at your local Autozone. Attatch a wire from the olive ebrake wire to one of the prongs to the toggle switch, and then gound out the other wire. Now you are set. If you have any questions, post em.

i just put it on a switch, one side to the parking brake wire, the other side to ground, when you normally drive and start hte car, leave it off, when you want to watch, flick the switch :)

+1 on backgrounds. I took 16psi's advice and put it on a switch...

why not just ground the wire to the chasis? This worked for me..

grounding it to a chasis wont work...

when the unit starts up, it cannot see a ground signal, or it wont bypass, it first have to see NO ground signal and then ground signal for it to bypass...not sure how it worked for you but all the 6800s i have done, this is not the case

You have to burn your JPG's to a cdr and browse the cdr from the deck. If you have a cd in there already, you must remove it to load the CDR with the jpg's. To my knowledge, even with an AVIC Z-1 (built in HDD) you cannot store anything but the 2 selected backgrounds (one for AV and one for Nav) on the unit. Any additional backgrounds will need to come from the disk.
