2 JL 10w7's?
 

Ok I need some advice...

I want to but 2 10w7's in my Z and I am thinking about using mikes box with the amp rack (here)

the box has .67 cu ft for each sub but the reccomended airspace is 1-1.3 cu ft

will it sound good or should I just go with one sub? (i really want 2 of these)

I have seen a few other people say that have 2 10w7's in this kind of box, but I have not heard any feedback about how it sounds.

not a good idea, you need to have the proper airspace for the subs to perform. with cutting the airspace in half you have a good chance of damaging the subs

Got a friend that got 2 JLW7 in a similar box (Close air space), They perform ok, however in that space the DON"T outperform the 10w6, (Since is a better fit for W6) And they are much more expensive, so it really doesn't worth to pay more it you gonna get same quality with 2 10w6s.

Now what I would really recommend if you want to stick with the W7, get single with a similar box. That will sound great.

I think 2 10's is overkill in the Z. And that box seems small for what you're trying to do.

I have a .75 box with one 10" sub and it's plenty.

I tell you 2 x 10''s is more than what you will ever need. 1 is more than enough, however not bad if you want to have 2 (Like me) it looks more simetric.

Check these guys out, they do really good work. If you end up getting a box or calling for more info tell them that Bret Savino recommended you.

I recommend the door pods as-well. With that much base, you are going to need some kick as mids and highs to balance it all out.

that would be pretty bad to use half the recommended volume for the subs. plus u gotta consider that the volume of the sub's displacement is not considered in the recommended enclosure volume, and since the mag is bigger on the w7s, the total volume of the box is even less.

+1...Not to mention, the mounting depth of the 10W7 is greater than the Z-enclosure. I've already spoken to Mike about this. He currently does not have a design to accomodate the 10W7.

that actually isnt true, the box i am talking about is the one with the amp rack on it, which has more space than the one that is JUST under the strut bar... i actually already have the one with 2 10s just under the strut bar... if u read the ebay page it says they fit...

:thinking: I must of missed that one. I could've swore Mike told me he didn't have a strut or floor mount box to accomodate the mounting depth or cu air vol for 10W7's. He could've been talking about 12W7'S though.

Well, you can get a box that goes only under the strutbar. That's what I have and it's about .75 cubic feet of space and leaves you with 2 areas of space in the hatch. Then there's the box that extends forward toward the front seats. Then you're left with only 1 area of usable space but the box is way bigger.

do you have any pics of the bigger box?

i saw this picture the other day... what is the airspace in that box, in the store section of the site it does not have too many specs...it seems like it is way too small for 2 10w7's...

in the end all i really want to know is how does it sound. i want to be able to make it thump like crazy and also make it just sound balanced

The box is 100% fiberglass, and one chamber this helps with the air space. It is about 1.8 Cu ft. I recommend some polyfill and you are where you need to be... WARNING it can get real loud with th eright amp like the JL 1000/1. But will still sound sweet.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood. We've had a box for the 10w7 for around 9 months. Its an under strut bar box extended forward with amp rack that will hold a 10W7 (this box also has internal bracing to help support these larger subs)...... It doesn't have enough airspace for two 10w7's...sorry

this is the exact kind of answer i was looking for! i would get the 1000/1 but i already have a 500/1 so i am going to get another 500/1 and use that. so 2 500/1's are pretty much is the same as one 1000/1. i dont really like the vinyl and i dont want to paint it bc i will def scratch it up, so does this box look good carpeted?

Well, that won't work as good unless you have a way to Level match those amps perfect. Best way for you is a 1000/1. Reason is as fallows.You will have two monster Subs in the same chamber the only way you can assure they will hit at the same time is if you use the same amp for both, this way the output of the amp is the same for both subs... With 2 X 500/1 if there is the smallest variation you will loose a lot of output because they will cancel each other out... i am not saying it can NOT be done, Just saying if you are spending all that money you might as well get the best set up for your needs.

BTW Carpet will be just fine.
