Can't remove center console wiring harness
1 Attachment(s)
This is silly, but I'm trying to remove the center console (routing RCA cables from head unit to glove compartment) and I can't disconnect the wiring harness that connects the center console to the rest of the car. I've attached a pic to show what I'm talking about.
How I disconnect this? Do I need to use a screwdriver (which I have tried)? Or are there some tabs that I'm missing? Thanks for any info. |
If u tilt forward ur seats u will see 2 screws on the sides ---did u get those ???? Plus --Really look in and under all the cubbys on the top to make sure u didnt miss any
|
Yeah, I got those screws. The center console is off, it's just the wiring harness itself that I can't disconnect.
Kind of silly that that the thing holding me up at the moment is that I can't disconnect some wires. |
Sorry --Just dont recall ----I tend to do it matter of factly and dont really think bout it cuz I do it so much. Some connectors are tricky, Its a press and pull deal, Some have locks on them that have to be taken off before u press and pull. Sometimes easier to just pull out the component ( like a switch ) Either way they are designed to stay together and tend to be stubborn. If u were maybe more specific I could help more

The way the wiring harness is positioned, it's pretty hard to get a good look at it to see how it comes apart.
I can't tell if it comes apart in the middle, or towards the side closest to the front of the car. I've tried jamming a small screwdriver in the top and sides to separate the two halves of the wiring harness, with no luck. I tried pressing on both sides to see if it was a press and pull type harness, and the thing won't come apart. Anyways, thanks for the responses, I appreciate your time. |
So hard to explain ----If u have an elec. connector that appears to come apart and if it is in the "center" of the loom, It HAS to come apart, It is generally obvious what has to be done but they are VERY tite. If there appears to be a push devise on it make sure u are pushing the two halves together as u push it down, otherwise it will hang up. There are some where u have to slide a very small screwdriver into a slot to unlock it --Take ur time and be persistant. Sure would like to see a better picture.
Is it the white connector in the picture ? If u still have trouble tomorrow I will pop my shift cover off and look at mine ---No big deal |
Yeah, it's the white connector in the picture. After work, I'll fiddle with it some more, and if I can't get it, I'll post some more useful pics.
Thanks for your time. |
I just walked out to my car ---took me 4 minutes----Push down hard on the white connector assy. It is held in place by a plastic retainer that will pop out. Flip the white connector 180 degrees and u will see a small "button" push on that with a screwdriver and pull it apart.

I was able to finally get it. Never thought I would have so much trouble disconnecting a wiring harness! Thanks for the help E***zzzzy.
|
Well --when u dont know ---it scares ya. Afraid u'll break something---Glad it worked out !!!!
|
so squeezing it and pulling it worked huh?
|
Well ---No ---This particlar one is attached with a snap in hanger/tie and has to be broke loose from it so u can turn it over. It has a little button as oppossed to a lever as do most so its a little hard less u can see the button
|
that little connector is difficult. I finally mastered it after a few tries though.:)
