Let's talk UPS backup for car.

I really happy with how my car pc is working so now I have to throw something else into the mix.

UPS battery backup. I know it's been brought up before but I wanted to make a post dedicted for brainstorming some ideas.

Key issues:
1) How to set it up. Is there such a thing as a DC power battery backup (i.e. one that can be connected to the car battery or cigarette lighter). If not, does it have to be set up as with as inverter/ups. Other realistics options.
2) Power available/power needs... How much power is needed in the hibernate mode vs. power offered by most standard UPS supply. How long can the unit be run on the UPS.
3) Re-charge. Probably the most difficult issue because the car will most likely be running off the UPS most of the time vs. car battery. Can it be done without any additional work on our part.
4) Safety. How safe are theses things? How can we make them safer?
5) Misc issues (i.e. noise, etc.) How to keep thoses darn UPS units from screaming...most like have to take the thing apart and tear out the offending part.

yes they exist. www.tripplite.com . problem is they are about 400$. but they are some serious beasts, you supply your own battery, and you could use your car battery, or a second battery... or both, or 2 extra, its pretty flexable from what I understood. but very expensive.
