'pop' ...kikcer's amp

so, I got in my car yesterday after a long day at work, start the engine, and being listening to the radio while the Z warms up...within 1 minute of starting the engine, I hear a 'pop' from somewhere behind me, the speakers go silent for a few seconds and then come back on (but the radio was still on)...I open the compartment behind my seat and see smoke coming from my Kicker 700.5 amp!

I'm contacting Kicker today...I bought all the stuff in September, so I hope they'll just replace it quickly - sucks to drive home in traffic w/ no radio!

any suggestions to make this process go faster?

-Peter

spec:
Kicker ZX700.5 (5 channel, 700 watts)
85 watts X 4
420 watts @ 2ohms

sub: Kicker's 10L5
wired at 2ohms, 450 RMS watts
speakers: kicker's components

**the gain for all speakers and sub are around 60%, and I rarely blast the system...

not sure what it is...but it's internal to the amp. (the way it sounded, I thought it was a blown capacitor)

just talked with Kicker...since I bought the amp from Circuit city less than a year ago, I can just take it back to Circuit City and get a new amp the same day! (sometimes it's nice to buy from a well known store, and not online...plus Circuit city runs some pretty good sale prices on their car audio)

I removed the amp and took it to Circuit City...they tried to say that I had to send it to Kicker, but I told them that Kicker said they had to take it and give me a new one...they did, and I'm back up and running!

i try to stay away from kicker amps

do Kicker amps have lots of problems? when I was researching my system, i read that Kicker was a fairly good brand. (plus, I wanted a 5ch amp to run all my stuff)

i do not find kicker to be sq as far as amps or subs

i do find l7 and solox to be spl subs and good for that

typically kicker amps are not know for problems , though in my experince that have their share

try power series RF amps $ for $ always more power than rated
clean power even with high gains
priced well

you will be hard pressed to find a better amp than power series RF

kicker
JL
alpine
kenwood
mtx
pioneer

if find RF better than all these i mentioned
