Official Kenwood DDX512 thread
So as many of you know, this is the 6.1" DVD monitor Kenwood has just released for 2008. I'm making this thread because this monitor has a ton of stuff on it, but there isn't a whole lot of technical information about it out there. I've read the manual front to back several times, and even I don't have everything figured out, so this thread is here to help other members with their 512. This unit can be had for $600 at any local Best Buy, which is where I bought mine. You will want the optional Ipod cable as well.
Here's a question I have:
1.) It seems the only way to upload pictures to the unit for your background image is with a USB storage device. This seems like a pain since the connection port for the USB is behind the center console of our cars...so anytime I want to add a new image it seems like I would have to pull out my center console and find that wire back there. Is there an easier way to go about uploading pictures? What's the deal?
If anyone else has any questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them.

Buy a $10 USB extension and extend it into the center console storage area, into the glovebox, or tuck it under the dash somewhere more accessible.

More shots. P.S. the steering wheel is for sale:
Here you can see the red scroll bar on the left side. You can actualy use your finger to drag the bar down, or you can simply touch anywhere inside the scroll bar area to make the scroll bar quickly go to where your finger is at, so you don't have to drag it down forever if you have a lot of songs, just touch where you want the bar to shoot down to.
"Are you sure you're a doctor?"
In this pic you can see how the screen doesn't sit perfectly flush with the curveture of the dash, but it actually doesn't bother me that much.

how will a unit like this sound with the stock non-BOSE speakers?
Im not happy with the standard sound system in the base model, and a good head unit will help the sound. Just curious as to if anyone has heard it like this or any opinions how much of a difference it will make

If I go to my local Best Buy or Sound Advice, wherever they sell it cheaper, how much you think the store would charge to install?
(with the iPod cord, which im sure theyll have to drill a hole and locate somewhere)

What about for those with stock BOSE? I really like this unit but I don't want to change anything else but the HU. Plus I dont have the money and the know-how. And also what kind of harness and dash kit did you used and where can I get it? Thanks.

Did you buy a SAT Receiver for it? Could you figure out if you need to buy the Kenwood->Sirius adapter box in addition to to the Sirius Connect module? Is there any room down below the A/C controls to stash both modules?
