Update on problem...last page

ok...so here is my short story. Thanks to the few people that have been helping me over PM.

I just had a brand new Avic D3 installed. Everything works perfect, but I had to replace an ipod cord that kept shortening out. At this time, I had a buzzing or hissing noise esp. when playing ipod songs, and ALOT with pause on and volume turned up.

After having the 2nd ipod cord in...buzzing/hissing is even worse but the cord works great.

I took it back again and had them try to adjust setting on PAC. Turned it all the way down and front speakers were gone, so right now its a quarter of the way, still hissing, and the audio isnt loud much.

okkkkk...soooo when I disconnect the ipod cord from the ipod, the hissing noise stops!

wtf!? I keep getting info that its not the actual unit. Is it another cord? How in the world could I have such luck? Is it a bad ground? I don't know what to do at this point and I am really really pissed off.

they suggested I get an amp to run my stock bose speakers/sub...a 4 channel. They said this will eliminate the hissing noise.

will it? if so, how about this cheap ass jensen, I dont care just want this **** over with and as cheap as possible. :icon22:

oh, I have had 2 audio shops say its "standby" noise which is normal. But they said its uncommon in the Z's since the installs are usually cake. wtf, just my luck.

I'm gonna play frisbee with all of it in a few secs. *and I suck at frisbee so something is gonna break.

is the unit making hissing noises always or just when using the ipod

I don't have a D3, but it sounds like something isn't grounded right. You shouldn't have any hissing whatsoever with a good quality head unit.

mostly when only the ipod is plugged in. If it happens when the radio is on, it is veryyyyyy faint or nothing at all. thanks

so when the ipod is plugged in and the radio is OFF it is making the noise

they took it apart 2 times to check everything out and continue to tell me its only standby noise and that its normal. Another installer said the same thing. He said its simply because I'm trying to integrate with the factory bose. I think thats bs. It shouldn't sound like this.

yes...when the ipod is playing music, this will make loud noise...when I pause the song, its terrible of coarse because no music or bass can wash the noise out or hide it. When I unplug the ipod, the noise stops completely. So it happens when music is paused AND playing. crazy. I get out of the car and I have the ringing in my ear. Everything is brand new and the ipod is almost new.

Also...on ipod mode or whatever...if you have the music on pause but volume up and play with the settings...that noise increases and decreses dramatically depending on what you have on. So like theater will be much louder than say...living room mode.

at the very least if it is only making the noise when ipod feature is being used it is related to the ipod


so 1st i would get another ipod borrow one and see if it solves issue

if it does not solve issue that i would replace with a high quality ipod lead

after that if it still makes noise i would have it fixed under warranty at a pioneer service center

thx. what is an ipod lead? Just another new cord? I have the one from pioneer.

could it possibly be the PAC unit? When we turned it down, that noise went off but the front speakers didnt play. So I have it quarter ways and it still sucks. Not sure. ahhhh lol

yes sir. Avic D3, PAC, and Ipod cord. Thats it. People have this same setup and have no problems usually. I find it hard to believe its an ipod cord for the third time, but anything is possible. I'll first try my brother iphone after work. If its still bad, new cord. If still bad...well, I'll play nice for now I guess.

he shouldn't have to just to get the AVIC to play without static though. Esp if he has the PAC converter. Are you sure it's the right PAC converter? do you have the model number?

exactly, I can't afford all that right now. I only bought this unit because I got a great deal on it.

on the back of this PAC cardboard piece, it says its for 95-99 Nissan with Bose. But I remember on the plastic covering it showed 350z. I'm confused, but I swear I did alot of searching on this site and I thought this is the correct one?

:+1: If you replace any part of the OEM Bose, you probably should replace everything (the cheap SubW and its tiny amp, and all the speakers).

Certainly there are success stories using a PAC adapter with the Z’s OEM Bose system, but there are as many failures at the end of a frustrating path modifying this system.

I don’t have personal experience with the OEM Bose on a Z, but did swap a H/U on a VW Jetta with an OEM Bose (I believe it’s labeled as the “Monsoon” system). This solution also required a PAC adapter. I could get it working fairly well; but when I tried adding various components (e.g., an iPod, USB connection, etc.) I would get “noise.” I probably could have spent more time fixing this, but it was easier to just replace the low-quality Bose components.

The fix was swapping out all of the Bose stuff with aftermarket components. Since the Bose stuff was pretty cheap, I used inexpensive replacements. The sound was much better, and no “buzzing” when adding additional equipment.

without hearing the problem, its hard for me to day, but i have done so many D3s with ipod, and have never noticed anyhitng like that.

why not hav ehtem swap in another d3 and see if the problem is still there.

Something else… and it may not be anything helpful, but it’s worth mentioning.

I installed a PAC Audio Source Switcher (to mute the radio when sending navigation voice commands to the front speakers). I had to fiddle by installing various resistors to get it working correctly. If I had too much resistance, the PAC Source Switcher would not switch audio sources. If the resistance was too low, I got buzzing and “popping” through the speakers.

So… maybe it’s the ground?
