Bring your MP3's with you...

My friend sent this link over to me. It takes all the MP3s on your computer and synchs them with a "changer" in your car. It sounds pretty cool.

Has anyone used this?

that's really cool. looks like the kenwood music keg (i think that's the name). but, same idea. good to see it works directly with the nissan OEM stereo!

Cool. I didn't notice till I looked again but it works using the stock controls. Kinda neat...

Pretty cool, but if you're seriously looking at this, you might want to look at the Neo MP3 car jukebox. It's about half the price and easily upgradeable. Also it works with Alpine, Kenwood and Pioneer stereo systems, no Nissan stock stereos though.

The Kenwood Keg is the same product as the Phatbox, just branded as Kenwood. It has the added benefit of being able to interface directly with Kenwood decks, showing tag information. It's one big drawback is that there's no fast way to find a particular CD. You have to seek through each virtual disc and wait while the deck loads it. It's a pain in the ***, but I usually just hit shuffle and listen to my whole collection anyway.

Thats the only difference with this system from all the others. Is it is plug and play and doesn't use RF which blows...

When you buy the Neo you select what type of HU you're going to be hooking it up to. They send you a device that emulates that brand's CD changer. So in essence it hooks up just like a CD changer, so no it's not RF

Will this interface with the track package?

APPLE IPOD

Apple ipod has and fm converter for mp3's. just attach it to the ipod, dial the frequency on the converter, tune the radio to the selected frequency and blam...your music on the air, i havent gotten it yet, and im not sure if it will play as clean as cd quality music as well. It cost $40 for the converter. I will post again as soon as i get it and test it out... i hope it sounds better than the radio...

Kenwood Keg

Kenwood bought the right to use the technololgy of the Phatbox and their software. The data cartridge is identical and the player unit is just about dead on.

If you use the PhatNoise software you can push the sampling rate up or down. Down you can get more songs on but up will give you better quality. I am using the highest rate and have 1000 songs and am less than 25% full.

I bought the 20GB model on ebay for $400.00. Installed it in the
CD changer slot behind the driver's right shoulder. Got a finish panel from UltimateZ.com for $10.00 and it looks great and sound wonderful.

The Keg can be hooked to most any current Kenwood model CD HU(see KenwoodUSA.com for list), and will work with 3 of their DVD touch screen LCD in dash players: Ie Kenwood 910,911 and M700.

The Keg will work on any other system including a stock HU via the use of the Kenwood FM Modulator, and with using FM sound is not bad. If your HU has an AUX IN like my Alpine 7995 , then you RCA direct to the HU and use the Modulator only to control the Keg Unit play features. Direct RCA sounds better.

People who have seen and heard my system cant tell it isnt a real CD playing.

For the money I would just add the keg and a $45.00 FM Modulator, RCA direct if I can, and leave the Phatnoise stuff alone. There is not in my mind a $400.00 difference in the price.

IMO ,There is no way the Phatnoise will be able to interface with the stock unit, and give you the visual title controls without some add on item, Like the FM Modulator. And you really need the disc title controls.

Either way it is still better and safer than carrying around 500 CD's. I also bought a second cartridge as a backup and sync both. If anything every goes wrong, I have the entire CD collecion on the back up.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.
