need help with jl 12w7

will 2 jl 12w7s fit in the rear corners of the trunk? if not, will it fit in the oem location?

orgasm_donor 09-10-2008 10:40 PM

Of course they will fit in the corners as long as the enclosure is custom built properly. Make sure they have enough airspace.

Stock location? Well, there would only be room for one and because it is nearly infinite baffle, it will sound like ass. For those two subs, the best (and easiest) enclosure would be in the tire well. I think they sound horrible when sealed so I would recommend a properly built ported enclosure and you'll need at least 1500 watts to power them sufficiently.

why 12W7's?

Cambinese 09-11-2008 05:23 AM

i've been searching around and a lot of ppl hav been saying that the 12w7s are the way to go...so thats wat i've been going on, so you think that the rear corners would b alright?

doug 09-11-2008 05:42 AM

are you getting them at a discounted price? if you are buying them at retail you are wasting your money... we can suggest better subs are a better price that will out perform the w7

That is insane anyways! One 10w7 is plenty of base. What are u trying to do? Your mids and highs will be absolutely deminished and u will probably lose your window in the process. At the very most you should do just one. But do what you want. Just my $0.02

12w7 is not even close to fitting in the stock location. too big, too deep too much air space required.

i agree with the two 12w7s would seriously be overkill... not to mention take up a ton of space...

and as mentioned, there are better sounding subs for less money, but the w7 IS a nice sub, i cant deny that...

i won't fault you for your short comings :icon18:

I've got a single 10W7 in a Zenclosures understrut bar. In such a small car, the bass is ear-splitting. Also the mounting depth is enormous and I doubt you would be able to fit any W7 in either the corners or in the factory location.

i just wanted something loud lol i was thinking of pushing 1kw for each 12w7, but if its going to take take a mirror i should think of a dif setup...any ideas of 10s or 12s to fit in the rear corners? may b 2 10w7?

lol now you know I've said I'd never in hell pay $500 for that sub but $150 was a bargain. If I do decide to upgrade though I'll probably pony up and get the IDMAX10.

The box for my 10 takes up about half of the hatch :dunno:

Cambinese 09-11-2008 06:32 PM

are there any suggestions on wat to use to put some subs in the rear corner unless there is somewhere i can put subs where i dont hav to take out my spare tire?

blasian 09-11-2008 06:50 PM

You're pretty limited on space, you won't fit 12W7s back there... You may be able to pull off 10s but you're talking about taking the entire rear part of the hatch.

orgasm_donor 09-11-2008 08:05 PM

Your really don't have to go so big. 12W7's are not only overkill, they are over-rated. I have installed several 12W7's and even a couple of 13W7's in my own car. VERY dissapointed especially for the price. IDMAX was mentioned and they are fantastic subs for the price. My all-time favorite sub (regardless of price) is the Digital Designs DD9112. Even a type X is great value although you need ported for the Type X.

Eevn a single 12W6 would be sufficient for your application. Hell, even the 10W6 would be sweet. Make sure they are V2's. :)

The mounting depth of a 10W7 is something ridiculous like 10 inches. There is no way that you're going to mount one in each of the rear corners. They're just too big.

This is my setup. I like it because it leaves the rearmost portion of the trunk available for storage.

I really like that set up. Clean, and still have space to put stuff in.

99mustanggt 09-12-2008 07:48 PM
